hey. i'm new to this site and everything about it so i don't really know where to start. i'm basically looking to turn my PC into a recording unit for myself. i know a guy who has Cakewalk and is pretty impressed with it so far. but i'm looking to buy something and expand as my funds grow, an investment of sorts. for starters what do i use as a platform? and thoughts on Cakewalk or ProTools would be greatly appreciated.

Quit now before you spend all your money, lose your house and family, its not to late:D

PS, welcome to the site!:)

PC or Mac ??
I prefer PC....Intel P4 2.4 gig or better
1 gig of ram or better
ASUS boards

Cakewalk Sonar is pretty popular and enexpensive
Pro tools is over rated but the digi002 is pretty popular as well
I would look into the m-audio delta cards for starts as an interface
You may want to pick up a mixer as well with preamps

A couple grand should get you going immediately

hey thanks for both of your input. it is appreciated muchly

I would go Pc over the Mac.

Sonar is my choice for recording software. I use it all the time and it is great.

Cubase is not very user friendly. A friend of mine has it and it is a pain in the ass to use.

As Stealthtech said "proFools" is definitely overated.

My 2 cents
