I have some what "inheirited" a Mackie ProFX12, and a M Audio Mobile Pre MKii, using Ableton Live 8.2. The recording venture has been really fun so far, but I need to step things up to the next level. Im thinking of buying a new interface of some kind with multiple channels. Should I continue to use the ProFX12 and just run out of that into a 2 channel interface, like the Foscurite Scarlett 2i2 or, do I need to take that mixer out of the equation and get something more direct?

I need to have enough channels to record a drum set, bass, two guitar amps. Sometimes all at once. Were a live band trying to record that way..
My budget for the interface is about $350-450. Any suggestions?

All at once?

Only thing I can think of is the TASCAM US1800 for that in your price range. A ton of people on here use that; they can probably give you more specifics on how it can suit your needs than myself. Only thing I can say is if you're getting an interface, ditch the mixer for recording.

Leaving the mixer to one side for a moment and taking account of your possible "whole band" recording need, there are really only two games in town.
If you can still find one, the Tascam US 1800 (Thomann have dropped it) or the new Tascam US 16x08. (around £200 at Ts)

Both these interfaces will give you 8 mic inputs to separate tracks. Enter the Mackie. This has inserts on the mic channels and so could feed the further line inputs on either Tascam for even more mic channels. I see the mixer also has a high impedance input for guitar/bass? Handy!

You don't NEED the mixer but since you have it you might as well make use? If the routing allows, it will probably do duty as a decent monitoring device, maybe even "talkback" to muso's headphones? Does that version have USB recording? If so that could be useful as a "slate" track.

Dave.
