Im trying to record guitar into cubase on my computer. Ive heard talk of a direct box or something that you need to get your guitar up to signal. I plan playing the guitar clean into the computer and then adding software effects later. Will this product do if i plug my guitar straight into it and try to record onto cubase?

Thanks a ton guys!

im still wondering if someone can explain to me what i need to get my guitar at the right level to record..... i dont want the line 6 thing because im going to get an interface with midi inputs also. Will any audio interface get my guitar to the correct level to record?

It appears the unit you are looking at has a high impedance instrument input, so yes, you could plug your guitar directly into it for recording. Not all interfaces provide that feature. Some stand alone preamps provide that feature and some don't as well. In that case you would need a DI (direct injection) box to accomodate using the instrument. DI boxes can also contribute to the sound of the instrument, so picking the right one may have an impact on your recording. DI boxes can range from cheap ($20) to very expensive ($1,000+) depending on the circuit topology and features. Here's an article on the subject from Whirlwind which is a well regarded DI box manufacturer.

agreed

i agree with tc4b. you need something like that.

Sorry to hijack, but quick question....is the Kontrol Rig 3 considered a good interface, as far as DI is concerned?

ESP,
You asked, you've had suggestions. If you just want someone to tell you you're on the right track don't worry about anything else just go with your deeply researched thoughts.. you could, of course follow advice, do a SEARCH with the SEARCH facility within the thread, forum or BBS.
the line 6 will give you the goods for guitar & mic. The Maudio will too BUT you really ought to explain what you mean by you midi intentions etc if you want an answer that will address you "total" recording needs.
From my perspective, I'm not into digital impressions of famous gear so I use an amp & mic into a preamp into my comp OR a DI box into the comp. Oft times I do both simultaneously but I have an 8 in 8 out card so I can get away with that easily enough. Both options in this thread will allow you to do similarly I THINK but you need to sort out what you want to do & what will give you the best value for you money.

I think you'd do better with this:

Comes with fun amp modeling software, too!

It seems to me that your question was answered... just what are you looking for?

Problem solved.

Eridol ua-20 is what I use to pop in some clean guitar sometimes, but use it mostly for an anolog stereo signal from a keyboard (I like miking amps for guitars better).

It also has a midi interface on it (which i use for VST synths).

Cheap, effective, and problem solved.
