Hey there. I recently switched from analog 4-track cassette recording to PC-based recording. My low-end setup is as follows:
CuBase 3.7 VST w/ Steinberg ST24/96 Soundcard
Pentium II 400 w/ 196 MB RAM, 20 gig HD (may up this later)
M-Audio StudioPhile SP-5B Monitors
Behringer Eurorack MX1604A 16-Channel Mixer
Alesis 3630 Compressor
Alesis Nanoverb
Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine
Casio CZ-101 MIDI linked to an E-mu Proteus 2 Module
Various mics, etc.
My question is a relatively simple one, I think, about how to properly run cables for this setup. Right now, I've got most of my instruments, etc. running into the Behringer mixer.
From there, I run a stereo 1/4" cable from the CTRl-R outs on the mixer to the 1/4" stereo input on the soundcard.
The soundcard 1/4" stereo out goes into the monitors.
My problem is, I can record tracks fine (so far). However, I cannot listen to tracks on headphones and record over them. I can play them back on the monitors, but I can't get the proper headphone/monitor setup so I can use headphones during recording & monitors during mixing.
Anyone know what to do here? The CTRL-R out and headphone out on the Behringer are controlled by the same volume knob. There are also main outs and ALT 3-4 outs on the mixer. I am guessing I should somehow run my soundcard output back into the mixer, and then hook the monitors up somewhere, but I'm not sure how.
Thanks for reading!
(Also any suggestions/tips on hooking up the outboard effects would be appreciated, too.)
