New to Mixing...?'s

Hey guys,

I am totally new to mixing and I am currently just investigating to see what I am getting into. I have read a few big articles that basically explain how things need to be hooked and I have a VERY BASIC concept of how it all works. I understand that a good mixer is a good investment and I seem to hear about "Mackie" a lot. Is this a good beginner mixer? I am looking for something that is good quality for a few hundred that will do pretty much everything I need to as I am just starting out. I have no idea how serious I will get into mixing but I would hate to buy one then in a year or two have to buy another one because my first wasn't good enough. I was also wondering what the good computer programs are and what exactly do I need. I have the MIDI on my computer but what else to I need? I am really excited about getting into this mixing thing but I don't want to just buy whatever and waste my money. I would like to sample from other albums and create my own music. Thanks for any information you can give me. Even if it is just your opinion, I greatly appreciate it.
 
You should do some more reading around these forums.......

1) You'll need to let us know how much money you plan on spending?

2) What equipment do you already own?

3) What kind of music do plan on creating?

4) What are you making the music for..........?

1. I don't really have a number in mind because I know that all hobbies can be costly.

2. I own a computer, that is it!

3. I plan on making acoustic music (recording), hip-hop, and basically, I like all different kinds of music so I want a system that will do whatever I want it to.

4. I am making the music for myself. This will be a hobby of mine and who knows where it may lead to. If other people like it great, but I don't really care because it is for me.

Just save your money. You'll find after a while this BBS will take up most of your time and you won't use the gear anyway:p .

Your description of what you want to do is still just bit vague. And since it is a rather expensive hobby, I would try to learn a bit more about what it is exactly that you want to do before considering buying anything. That is unless your totally loaded, then we could form a panel to come up with the ultimate studio setup covering all the bases in every category to be able to produce any kind of music....:rolleyes:

Do you play any instruments? Do you know anything about any gear or software? How about midi? What made you want to do this? How much initial investment are you willing or able to make? How old are you?

These are things that help when answering such a question.
