I play guitar, bass, vocal and composed drums(EZDrummer) in this track. All recording, effects(mostly just basic compression and EQ with Waves CLA and API series plugs), mixing done in Sonar X1 with the exception of some vocal processing done outboard after tracking with a TC-Helicon Voiceworks. I'm a guitarist first and foremost so be kind with comments on everything else. :) It's pretty straightforward song pattern but just something I had banging around in my head for awhile.

Feel free to post any/all comments. It definitely took some input from friends to get it to where it is today.

Like the sound of this.. that distant answering vocal thing seems really distant maybe bring it up a lttle and pan it a little harder? Its a cool dynamic during the verse...when the song gets "heavy" drums kinda get buried , I like that part....nice vocals and playing all around!

Thanks for the complement and constructive remarks! It actually took a bit of doing to get the drums to sound the way I wanted in general despite the fact that they're sampled. I started with the default EZDrummer kit and configured each mic to its own track -- basically like micing a actual kit. I EQd and compressed each to taste since they are still pretty big and in-your-face even for samples -- mostly the snare needed work and the overheads were harsh(rolled off some highs). I muted the room mic altogether since it's not very good and just gives you this boxy, cheap sound over which you have really no control. After that they're all bussed into an API 2500 plugin with a low ratio(1.5), fairly high threshhold grabbing maybe 1 or 2 db, medium attack(20ms), medium release(200ms) to blend/glue the kit again -- some other settings on that plugin too which I won't bother to get into. To get the "room" back in I ran a basic reverb after the compressor on the bus with just some simple small room settings and mild early reflections. I damped most of the highs in the reverb to keep the overheads from getting too swooshy. It all pulled together nicely afterwards.
