New to digital

Hi..
I've been using 8 track analoge portastudios for ages but due to problems with the heads i've decided to by a brand new digital..
I like the old 60's sound so I'm not really interested in layers and layers of processing.Infact I only use reverb and compression when mixing to my CD burner.
I've been looking at the tascam 2488 Neo and it looks like the kinda thing I'm after.It has on borad effects so I don't have to hook up to a computer but some of the comments I've been reading have put me off..
Can anyone advise me about it? Basically anything that allows me to add effects to individual tracks after they've been recorded on (when mixing) sounds good to me..
I just want something that avoids alot of technical research so I can just get on with playing and recording with ease..

If you aren't spending much time getting your recordings to sound good, the quality of the sound isn't much of an issue.

For simple (one track at a time) recording, this would do just fine.

For what it's worth, I have a TASCAM 2488 (not MKII or NEO). I've never had a problem with it, and the only bad thing is some buttons are starting to stick, after about 6 years of heavy use. I love it and will probably replace with another one of it ever dies.

Thanks..Yes I am drawn towards Tascam..
