new to cubase 5 LE ...bought with alpha box(card)

just purchased 1 month ago....drivers are installed and recording well...

the .cpr files it saves as .....windows media player doesn't recognize it...i played with the mixdown a little ...no go.....

i saved as any file....no go....

1st question...how do i get the files i create to be windows media player friendly?

2nd question...my buddy musician has cubase on his apple...he's having trouble openin the files i create.....pls help.....not sure what to do?

the .cpr file is just the file that controls Cubase. In order to play your mix, you need to 'Export' your mix. Set your locators to what you wish to export in the project window.

File>Export>Audio Mixdown. Select the format you wish to use. MPEG 1 Layer 3 File is MP3. You have limited usage of this option with LE5. You will need to purchase the MP3 encoder from Steinberg once it runs out. Like $12 or something. You can export unlimited wav files, which Media Player will play. Usually set that to 16 bit for transfer to CD.
 
Also, to share a project, you need to include the complete folder (not just the cpr file). Images and Audio must be included with a cpr file. See, the cpr file just points Cubase where to find the audio and images, as well as editing and routing. It in itself, has no audio information.
 
thanks for quick response....

still not sure the best way to proceed. when i send my buddie the .cpr file ...include the image and audio file with it also....3 files need be sent each time...correct?...


i mix downed one file....popup was a time meeter...then back to mixdown screen....did it create a mpeg file in the path dir.?....

do i send my buddie that file and audio and image file for that particular song.....

sorry im real dumb to this stuff but i love what ive created so far and want to learn more......

all the audio files only say audio 1 ...audio 2... etc........... i need to rename all 3 files upon completion and saving?

i only saw where to save as.....and usually defaults to .cpr file......

what do you think?.....

when i installed ....i just let the program setup pathways and such.....should i reset some system settings to get a better setup for what i want to do?
 
We are talking about two completely different subjects here.

Yes, when you exported the file, it placed it wherever you 'Path' was set to. I usually just send them to Desktop. This is just a mixdown of your audio. Nothing related to Cubase.

This has nothing to do with sharing a project.

Your best bet, is to open Cubase, go to File>Back up Project. Select Desktop>New Folder. Name the project if there isn't one already. Leave the default boxes checked. Click OK.

This folder will have everything you need to share the project with your buddy. Send the whole folder.

did what you said......created bakup file ...in sep. folder on desktop...audio...images.......

i could'nt get the full folder to go over net.....even tryed compressing and emailing....aol and gmail is what we have.....

other than travelin to him personally ..and deliverin file on card....not sure the best option to send these types of files online????

Try hightail.com or streaky.com. Dropbox is also an easy way to share whole folders between the both of you.
 
guess ill still need that mp3 encoder....whats a good type/make?....i still have 25 to use on my software ....but i have a gnx4 (track recorder and preamp) with storage card ...i want to load up w my music....so i can play all my tunes on the fly.......oh yea.....what do you think?....
