Hello all.

Bought a new guitar. Ibanez with a Floyd Rose (for Ibanez people).

Recorded all guitar parts with the new guitar.

JKKP - v4.0 - http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=419303&content=songinfo&songID=5952413

Comments on playing, recording, arrangement, intro, outro composition are welcome. The tune is not mine. It's an old church hymn.

I've recorded it before as well. For comparison that can be heard:

Playing - very nice.
Recording - very nice.
Arrangement - builds, drops out, builds back up, flows very nicely!
Intro / Outro - very nice as well, although i would have liked to have heard you sustain that last note quite a bit more...but that's just personal opinion

I'd like to hear the drums a tad more, 'specially that snare.

which Hymn?

nice job bub...

Thanks for listening and commenting. I appreciate it. :)

The drums are obviously fake and the snare was louder originally. I had actually went back and lowered it to make the guitars sound bigger. :D

As to the name of the Hymn, it's called Jawe Kiss Ke Pass. It's an Urdu hymn, no English.

Thanks again for listening, man. :)

I can't remember this one but I'm losing my mind anyway.....:D

New Version.... V4.0
In spots the melody sounds a lot like Hotel California, hmmm ;) .

Nice choices of guitars throughout, each gives something special to the overall picture. Playing is excellent, drums are good, I think the snare is okay where it sits.

God mix, I don't have any recommendations for change on this one....

Old Version... V2.0
Morer Brash (??) edgier, not as smooth a tone as the new version. The whole mix is different. The melody is buried somewhat. More buzz than overdrive. Cymbals and highs are louder and not as smooth. Still great playing...except that ending :)

I prefer the V4.0 mix....

Did you block the Floyd Rose? I have one that I had to block to keep the thing from going way out of whack tuning wise when I bent strings.

Hey Ido, thanks very much for listening. :) I appreciate your comments. :)

The original version different. I gave the wrong link here. I'll correct that.

The original was something I had done after learning a few things from HR and trying mixing fresh. The masters were deleted because I wanted to feel like I had mastered the song enough. There's a backup on DVD somewhere but it's not easy to change it. :)

Anyway, I just got the Ibanez. I didn't even know what a Floyd Rose until I asked them what it is 'coz they kept saying it's hard to tune.

I don't know what blocking is. But if you mean block the bridge from sinking back allowed the pull on the whammy then no, I wanted the full trem capability. The choice was also further confused by having a Les Paul sitting there. Now that I had upped the budged the Les Paul was affordable. In the end chose to go with the Ibanez 'coz it was the full trem, 24 frets and it was the brand the convinced me to up my budged in the first place. Happy with the guitar, Haven't noticed too much different with the humbuckers but hopefully will in the future recordings. :)

I agree with everything so far..

Definatly bring the drums up. Everything else sounds great. Nice playing! I'm not as big of fan on your rhythm guitar sound, but the lead tone is nice. Clean tones are good.

Ok, so two votes for drums being raised. Just the snare or the entire drum track?

For the rhythm arpeggio sound, I created it myself and was trying to find something close to Nothing Else Matter clean sound. Finally stopped using the presets on the fx processor.

Thanks for listening. :)

If you want to bring just the snare up a db or so that would be cool...

Presets are generally pretty lousy but one problem is you can spend literally days trying to build one you like. The you need to program another one for the clean sounds....lol....

I like the patches you've designed for this one...

That guitar sounds easy to play - smooth delivery overall, nice intonation and vibrato. Sounds like it's got a nice neck....;)

Yep - the snare is better in the latest version.

Mix sounds great - I would up the volume overall though....it's not as loud as some of the mixes I'm hearing - good - just not as loud...

You know those Ibanez necks. They were trying to sell me the RGsomethingEX or something for $599 with EMG pups. Didn't wanna spend that much. These are stock INF pups but still do the job nicely.

Definitely sounds easy to play. Now I know, Slash hasn't been known to play an Ibanez but I'm trying to hold it low like Slash and still be able to play solos higher on the necks. First, I'll need to buy another strap and then the practice. If not, I could always buy a maple top Les Paul and the intro to Sweet Child 'o Mine. :D

Back to the mix, I guess I could up the volume. It was clipping so I thought I'd leave it alone. :)

Hey Bubba. Cool! Congrats on the new guitar, my first guitar was a super cheap Ibanez GRX20. I still play it sometimes though, love the thicker sound on it.
Solo intro sounds real nice. Nicely recorded too.
I remember the melodies here, the arrangement is real good. Gives it some good twists and dramatic moments like 1:50, then drops back down, nicely done. Sounds complex, but I can still hear seperation on all the instruments.
No real recommendations, a fine job to these ears :)

Gtrs sound very good. Nice layering of the gtrs at 1:50. Good balance overall. Only suggestion I'd have is to try to make the cymbals more natural sounding, or bring them down a bit.

Hey man, how's it going? Thanks for listening and commenting. I appreciate it. :)

I'm glad that so far there haven't been major complaints. :)

I think I almost bought a GRX something from Brook May's sale. But someone else bought it first. :)

Hey XLR, thanks for listening and commenting. :). I appreciate it.

Cymbals more natural? Check. Next mix, I'll try to vary the velocity and slight panning on some cymbals. :)

Thanks for listening. :)

Sorry BB,
The links aren't gettimg through for me at present - probbly heaving s/click traffic. I'll come back tomorrow.

Some good sounds.
What effects - colouration did you use?
I ask because I want to work out what the actual guitar sounds like. So, if there's a clean git in there please point it out.
I like the mix & the playing is terrific.

Sounds pretty cool to me man...I'm on phones, so.......

Guitars sound cool...I never lost track of the clean one when the others were starting to ramp up...sounded good during those transitions. The main portion of the drums seems to sit fine...an not squash out the guitars.

Nice playing man...very cool piece.

RayC, thanks for listening and commenting. I appreciate it. :)

The guitar is process by FX in all tracks. However the clean one is the closest to the original sound, obviously. It's got some chorus and delay and verb effects. I don't think it has anything else. All others are preset distorted sounds.

Thank you for your comments on the mix and playing. :)

Dogman, thanks for listening and commenting. :) I appreciate it.

I'm glad you like it and thanks for your comments. I noticed that the clean one was pretty clear throughout. So once I had that EQ balance, I didn't wanna touch it because if I had achieved clarity by miracle, I didn't wanna lose it. :)

Over time as I'm bored I may go back and vary drum hit velocities more to remove the drum machine sound. :) But thanks for your comments.
