Somebody pick me up.... you knocked me down with that one my friend.... Beautiful performance... Love the capture you got with those mics... Instruments are sweet

The only thing I got is that it seems to lack a little locomotion going on down deep, like maybe some kick and bass going on a little more.

Minor thing here, but for massed strings, I found it strange for the cellos to be in the middle between the two violin sections.

Great voice, sounds pretty good already. Guitar work also sounds fine.

Wow.

Love the guitar. Great definition. On my system it sounded like it was panned left a little too much, but I have a nasty head cold, and that might just be my ears being stuffed up...

I thought the vocals sounded good. Like you said, we're our own worst critics, so if you think you can do better than that, go for it. But you don't really need to...:)

I like what you did with the strings-maybe a little too "produced", and that may be why they sound a little less "real", but the y sound tremendous. I'm amazed at the sound quality you got from the room.

What are you using for a signal chain after the U95?

Great work...

Well my friend, I actually did those at the studio. He wanted me to get to learn how to work the system there so he let me go in one night and kind of fool around. I did a quick guitar and vocal and then ran out of time before I could rerecord them. I am fairly happy with them though.

I LOVED the mics. Of course I don't know how much of it was the pre's and how much was the mics, but overall this was killer. Much better than I thought for my first shot anyhow. I already have a few things I would do differently. Some of the sounds we went for weren't necessarily traditional but they were what "123" and the rest of the band dug (including me most of the time) so we went for it. We just finnished the guitar tracks and we will be doing Bass and vocals/overdubs in the next few weeks. Thanks again for the mics. My L version of the OSA preamps is getting repaired and as soon as I get it back from Dale I will bring them over. Brian is buying two of them through me in a few weeks. I think you will be surprised at how sweet they are. The API style pre punches like no other. I have always wondered why my mixes lacked punch. It was because I wasn't recording many "punchy" things, and I didn't have an API :) The A versiosn are sweet too, nice and clean but they seem to have a fair bit more roundness and body to them than the Grace I had. I am not sure how they are compared with your Hardy.

BTW this song is the same one I did at Guitars Unplugged. If come buy a damn CD for $5 you can hear them all ;)

you were close man, what you are hearing there is the delay of that line, but not what I was refering too. Go to 2:30-2:32. You will hear a very faint background vocal ("he'll be saying") It was just for kicks, and I liked it. I would like to do more to it in time like that.

Thanks a lot man it means a lot. I agree, I would like to throw a Bass in there as of now the Cello is carrying that weight as best it can. This weekend I was practicing with my other band ("Ruxpin") which is much heavier and electric, (I get to play bass :) and the singer/guitarist started playing this on his electric and then the drummer started going to town it was totally power ballad time, and funny enough it sounded pretty awsome, except it was about 10 years too late ;) However if Warrant starts to make a come back I will shoot them an email :) Heck maybe "Darkness" will do it :)

I know what you mean, not too traditional. The reason it was set up that way is because it was subbing in for my bass on this song, so I stuck it in the track down the middle. it felt out of balance when I tried other ways, however with a few added instruments I could shift some stuff around in the future.

The signal chain wasn't actually that hot once I got past the U-95. It went into the Control 24 pre's (cheap focusrite type, comparable to the platinum AKA cheapo), and then into the Pro Tools HD system. So I guess the only real weak link was the pre's. I want to go back in with my OSA pre's and try some more stuff out and really do some shoot outs. I just picked up a AT 4047 which I am excited to try out. This summer I hope to get a U-195 or maybe a TLM-103 and I will be able to really try some fun stuff out. The U-95 definatly adds a bunch of depth, I liked it a lot. and it actually was less prone to sybilance than a lot of mics I have tried.

Thanks to all for the all of the comments, I have really enjoyed them, and am planning to apply them to when I redo some of these recordings, and also when I write new stuff.

just another compliment...great acoustic, great strings, great voice...great song!
