Hey... It's been a while. Just got my new computer and this is the first song I've recorded on it. Here's the link: http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=2570

It's only about half of the song because that's all I've recorded vocals for.

This is what I used:

Adobe Audition 1.5
Casio WK3000 for drums, synths and bass
Fernandes Dragonfly & Digitech RP50 for guitars
Oktava MK-319 for vocals
T-Racks for mastering

I think I did a fair job on the vocals. The chorus guitars are a little rough but I plan to go back in and do some EQing.

What do you think? Please give me some feedback.

Thanks.

I like the melody ... kinda has a mellow "Tool" vibe to it. Great harmonies by the way........

Stat,
I thought it sounded metallica-esque without their signature gtr sound. Your vocals are clearly understood so they don't have the Tool buried alive element to me.
The vocals a really good thus far as is the song.
The gtr in the outro is more metallica sounding.
I do think you need to think about the gtr sound though. It's interesting but, because it's so mid based, doesnt stand up in the mix. Either add another gtr tracks that has the missing highs or tweak about.
When I said metallica I DON'T want you to alter things so as to sound like them - far from it!
Keep going with this piece It's coming along ...
Cheers

I like Tool/A Perfect Circle and i can see where the tool elements creep in there, also the previously mentioned Metallica sounding pieces.
However i do like this track, and with a bit more work on the guitars and perhaps a piano or something like that, it would complete it.
I coudn't really tell if that lead bit over the rhythm was played on the high end of the bass or on guitar, but i personally think it would sound nice either played on the bass with a little tighter on the recording side, or on piano.
The guitars could me multitracked a few times to fill it out and if you really was lookin for that Tool sounding vocals then i'd perhaps drop your vocals down in the mix or add a little more reverb.

Then again it's nice not to stick to wat others do so perhaps leave the vocals, multi the guitars and possibly change the instrument that plays the line over the rhythm in the beginning.

I like it.

Again, im a Tool/APC fan so i can definately understand what the posters above are saying. But i think its quite unique with the vocal sounds, very nicely put together. I think you should aim to get a drummer in and get a nice big real drum kit down as that doesn't give the track the energy it needs, especially when it kicks in a little.

Again, like some posters have up there, the guitar sounds a little out. I think if you layered it a few times, and gave it a 'thicker' sound it would really add alot to the track.

But overall, great track and i look forward to hearing the finished thing.

Thanks for checking out my song. Jeez! I wasn't aware that those Tool and APC influences came out that much in my music. Not that it's a bad thing...

I do intend to work on the guitars. They came out really flat because I used a different sound than I usually do... I think I'll just re-record with my usual sound... Maybe add my usual sound to the one that's already there to give it a bit of girth.

I do like the vocals where they are. They sound good to me and if I turn them down more, some words may get lost. I'm still really psyched because I actually recorded something that didn't have vocal pitch mess ups.

Can I ask what you did with the vocals...? Its a real nice sound... :)

Not fond of the guitar sound per se, but its a damned nice track :)

Well, the vocals were actually really easy to do. I used some of the stock effects that came with Adobe Audition. First, I cleaned up all of the background noise, then I normalized the track to 50%. Then I added a classic soft knee compressor. After that I added the 5 Voices (Pro) chorus effect with a few modifications (90 dry & 10 wet as opposed to 80 dry & 20 wet). Then I added a lite reverb.

For the harmony vox, I did basically the same thing except I didn't modify the chorus effect and I used no reverb.

In the end, I think they came out really nice. I'll have to use this technique more often. Also, the microphone helped a lot.
