HEy guys I'm looking for a new recording setup. I currently own an E-mu
1616m and I was thinking of expanding it through the adat in (with something like an octopre or such). Anyway the most preamps I can get out of this card is 10 (2 on the dock and 8 through adat) and that is it.

The truth is that while I dont need any more than that right now, Id rather sell the 1616m and save up for a real console that can pretty much do it all.

What I want is a good mixer/console with at least 16 channels with preamps + a good A/D/A card that can handle that. MIxer could be digital or analog (also your opinion on this A vs D issue would be great) and have decent effects in case I ever want to use it live.

Id also like some midi I/O if at all possible.

What I dont want is a bundled package because im not really looking to buy mics, monitors, cables, or keyboards just yet; only the console and interface.

Any suggestions would be great and in any price range (preferably a modest price though)

ANY IDEAS ARE GOOD, IM OPEN TO ANYTHING.

Thanks Guys!

Check out the Mackie Onyx 1640....perhaps a little pricey, but it has 16 channels and a firewire a/d converter as an option.
