These aren't loans - they are grants - money that's given to an individual so he can afford an education. They don't have to be paid back.
So he took part of this "free" money that is specifically meant to pay for school, and bought gear with it. He stole, and he's proud of it.

Yes, I have bought gear with free money before. Isnt it great?

Sorry to have trampled on your thread. I am gone. :)

And who the fuck do you think is paying for it, dickwad?

Wow! when I first read that.. I thought you were joking

it was so out there.. uncalled for

If you dont agree with something.. do you normally explode like this?

when you go into radio shack to return a pair of headphones... do you just throw them at the worker and tell him to give you another pair

I also know a couple viet vets... who might be a little bitter, but not as mean

there are far more important issues than wondering if your indirect tax dollars are going to his preamp.

my intuition says your mean

Fuck you, you jackass. Someone should have done us all a favor and left you in Vietnam to rot as far as I'm concerned.
What makes you think that I dont have a right to an education, and that my education is worthless, yet anyone elses, or yours, or your families, is? I am entitled to that money same as anyone else that was allowed to have it, and am entitled to spend it however I see fit. There is a screening process and its not exactly easy to get. I took my classes, all of them, excelled in everything I did, and yet you find a reason to run your stupid cocksucking cum smelling mouth about how I spent MY money when I was in school busting MY ass. MY money. Most of those students use the excess to buy cars, sound systems, dope, jewelry, whatever. Its thier money to do as they please. The money is there at the students disposal, whatever is left after tuition is thiers.
I didnt steal shit. I hope your kids arent as stupid as you are.
Your opinion of how any student spends thier money carries little if any weight, and to spurt off as if, well, you're just a stupid asshole, plain and simple.
Plain. And simple.
G'day, dickhead.

By the way, the grants that I got are sent directly to the school. They subtract tuition, books, etc, and then the rest goes to you. Thats how it works. They specifically tell you "its your money, do what you want with it"

I make too much money now to get any grants anyway.

Wonder what makes that cocksucker think he pays so much more in taxes than I do? 10+ years at UPS, I run a studio, and I have other on-and-off sources of income too. What a jackass.

this is waaaay too personal, guys

... this is a pre amp thread... please take it outside (maybe to the cave). this is inappropriate and senseless.
peace (please)- jv

<<Ever had a bank loan?? Its the same thing!! >>

actually, technically, it's not. when you sign the papers for a student loan (stafford loans or whatever they're called these days), part of those papers say that you will agree to only use the money for education-related expenses (tuition, room, board, books, etc), and NOT for non-education related things (which a 1272 counts as....unless you're a music major, i guess :D).

how many of us do or did? i sure didn't. i remember truckin over to Crutchfield and buying a stereo with mine, along with a dorm fridge and a LOT of beer and pizza. they went in my room in college, so i could at least claim they were somewhat related to education :D, but the point remains, the money you get from an education load is technically NOT the same as the money you would get from a personal/bank loan, and neither is the paperwork you fill out........

.....i guess mainly since it's money that's funded/loaned by the federal government (to some extent or another). yes, you agree to pay it back (and at a less-than favorable interest rate at that matter), but it's simply not "yours to do with as you please". there ARE stipulations attached to that money.

so, beezoboy, please understand that i'm not tryin to bust your chops or anything, b/c i know i did it too (and have been paying back my loans for the better portion of the last 10 years--almost done, yay!), but it's a fact that needed pointing out none the less.

Well . . . let's see . . . Roger Nichol's seems to think it holds it's own against Manley and Avalon. I like mine. What do you think?

Well............This weekend I had the time to really check out my new Avalon M5. I can say that the DMP-3 is a great pre for the $$, heck, its a great pre period. However, it really does not compare to the Avalon. The Avalon is much more detailed and "bigger" sounding. I think that the DMP-3 is excellent on instruments and drums, but the Avalon is awesome on vocals and bass. The Avalon is probably not worth 1500$, but I got it for less than 1/2 price. For that $$$, the Avalon is worth every penny.

PS: The problem I found with the DMP-3 is when I stacked too many tracks (12), The DMP-3 loses its little mind. It starts to get muddy. I had to re-track at least 6 tracks with the Avalon to get the clarity back. Then, I used the Avalon to finish the other 12 tracks. The Avalon will take all 24 tracks with excellent clarity as I used it exclusively on another song. I made it to 22 tracks by Sunday night and it does sound awesome.

The DMP-3 still is a great pre, it just is limited when recording too many tracks. I would think for people who are recording on 8-track machines that it would be ideal.

BTW. . . Mr. Face. . . I am a Music Major!!! Bwahahaha!! :)

I have recorded 2 marching bands CD's, Music played on the schools Carillon, and made 100's of recital recordings. I also put together the schools $50,000 technology lab. Assembling 13 Wenger workstations is a pain too!

Hmmm. . . I never read the fine print on the loan though. Good points, but I actually could make a strong argument for my equipment I think due to what I have done over the years.

well, then......in my best Mr Garrison voice, "spank my ass and call me charlie" :D i think it's justified given what you're majoring in. it could definitely be a "study aid", no joke.

and hey, in that case, you need to incorporate and write this shit off.......although i don't know if you can write off stuff you bought with loan money. what a coup that would be!

seriously though, get in the habit of reading the fine print. especially on important shit like promissory notes. it'll likely save your ass one day. :p

I was thinking of getting two for toms, to replace my mackie 1202 vlzpro from those duties. my Great River remains my main pre as well as the RNP. do you think the the DMP-3 would be a noticeable upgrade compared to the mackie? also what tracks did you end up replacing with the Avalon?

Rane MS 1B

Could I use Rane MS 1B as DI ( for bass guitar, acc.guitar, keyboards...)?
