Nakatira

That Norwegian Bastard
I posted a skecthy piece of this tune some time ago.

It has now become a fullength demo.....:D

Anyways, this was recorded this weekend with my band using a Firepod.

Following instruments were used.

Guitars, Bass, Drums, Keys; Organ and mellotron (patches:D)

Drums and various Percussion.

The piece is 12.30 minutes long, but hopefully it should remain intresting for sutch a long time:o:D

I`ve named the tune Ladytron, for the moment.

Love to get some feedback on this

Love to get some feedback on this

All you have to do is turn up your amp and place your guitar right against it.:D

But seriously.......I love the sound and playing on this. I remember when you first posted it. The drums sound good now. If I remember correctly, they were a little box-y on the first version. Great 70's music, man.

Thanks man.

I was working on thos drums trying to get them to shine.

it also helped to change the Overhead mikes.

tried Sontronics sdc`s for the first time, they sound better then the shure pg81 IMO.

Thanks for the listen man:)

takes me back to my bearded, flared & spotty days - but nostalgia aside this is a terrific demo.
My ONLY nit is that the bassist plays too many fast short notes in the intro - I know it foreshadows some of the upcoming tempo but his sustained notes sound SO much better in that section.
The vox have a little early Gabriel era Genesis inflection - nice!

I feel like I just ate an entire cheescake. I made it through the whole thing! :D

A 12 and a half minute prog-rock song is about the greatest torture I can imagine, but I made it through unscathed. Sounded pretty good for the most part. There's a few minor timing flubs, but I'm assuming this was recorded live, so it's pretty damn good in that regard. I guess my only nit with it would be the drums. They sound pretty good on their own, but seem distant and 2-dimensional in the mix. The kick is barely present at all, and sometimes invisible. I'd just like the whole kit to be more up front - particularly the kick and snare. I like a clear and defined kick/bass seperation. But the way the drums are now does give it a 70's kind of feel to it, so maybe that's what you want. All in all I'd say you did a pretty damn good job. :)

This was a really good piece! I like pretty much everything about it with two exceptions. I agree with Greg on the drums. They sound like they were mic'ed from the other side of the room. No clear definition. But like Greg said, maybe that's what you wanted.

My other nit is during the guitar/bass run. It sounds like the intention was for the bass to double what the guitar is doing, but the bass seems to be playing different notes at the very beginning of each run.

All in all, though, a very good tune! Musicianship was top notch!

Damn!..

Used to listen alot of 70's stuff before descending to metal...:D

This is right on the nail.
The drums being a tad distant, the whole thing carried by bass and tronics, the vocals recessed "inside" the mix rather than on top, all contribute to that 70's feel.

The Playing is great.

"This has gone far enough"- I thought, at 11:58, so it carries quite close to it's end.

Nice work.

Awesome, Naka!!!

My kind of stuff.

Torture for me would be a 12:30 minute song that wasn't prog!!!

Lot's of Tull sounding stuff in here, particularly that guitar/bass riff--sounds like that one part of Thick as a Brick, about 5-6 minutes in from the beginning, in 5/4 time.

Yeah, a little more drums in the mix; kick for sure, and snare.

Vocals don't sound very buried in the mix to me.

Sure wish I a Naka CD. (is it still Munchausen?)

you have no idea how much i enjoyed this!
Same here.

Nice work Nakatira.

More drumset please. :D Also more articulation/pop to the bass gtr.

Cool vocal. Ditto re the lead gtr at 3:30.

Organ is great tone-wise but sounds to me like it's leading the beat too much some of the time in the first section of the tune.

Great song Nakatira, I grew up listening to this kind of stuff in concert. Tull, Bloodwin Pig, King Crimson, Emmerson Lake and Palmer, The Who, Bowie, Yes, Procol Harim - I'm hearing all of these artists in this work. :)

Love the drama of the vocals. Very expressive and draws the listener in.

Ditto what XLR said about the timing issues, but they're pretty minor IMO.

Good entertainment, man. One question: Some of the vocals had this doubling effect that was pretty wide in the stereo field. Can you do that live?

Thanks ray,:)

The bass player used a Fender pre with Flatwounds, on this.
and that bass sounds so fat, it has a nice groove to it, but when it comes to details I think he`ll go with his Jazzbass the next time.

Like one of his favorite musicans John Wetton.

Thanks for the Gabriel Remark man, one of my true heroes:)

See my post in the other place.

thanks for the input:)

Thanks man.

the tune is still under construction, so will sort out the bass and guitar issues, hopefully:D

We just got a new guitar player, and he`s comming along quite well.

Thanks for the listen:)

Hey mate.

Long time no see.

I`m glad you dug it.

I`ve tried to fix the drums now, hope they come through a bit better.

Nice that you notice the thick as a brick part, we kinda felt like playing that piece at that place in the tune, and decided to take our own spin at it.:D

When I get to make a Cd, I promise I`ll ship a copy each to you and Casey.

Münchausen is dead long live D`AccorD:D

Munchausen kinda died with dissapearing members, no drama just difference of priority.

So I gathered up some new musicans for this new project, and theire all Progfans:D like me:cool:

Thanks Tim.

I`ve tried beefing up the bass in my second mix, and the Organ has been put down a few notches.

cheers:)

Very cool. I'm getting loads of Gabriel era Genesis on this not to mention Nektar, Yes and others. Great playing and good sound (was this one take live?). It did keep my interest and I'd love to hear a full studio production of this.

Thanks man, you just mentioned all my influences (close):D

Just being in the same sentence as those make me a happy camper.

We hope to fix those timing issues after some more practice this summer.

The Doubling effect is impossible to do live, as it is done by singing the same line twice on seperate track, and then panning them.
I think Ian Anderson (tull) is a big user of this trick.

There are quite good effects sutch as short doubeling delays and chorus that can give you a simular effect.

Thanks for the listen man.:)
