new plugin into sound forge 6.0. possible? how?

hello,

i d/led 4front bass module VSTi ( http://www.yohng.com/bass.html ) that there...

and i want to USE it! i dont have a bass guitar, only a guitar guitar. but i need bass in my songs, and through friends on this board, i got recommended this bass module.

but i can't seem to import it into sound forge. is it possible?
if not... i'm using Kristal audio engine as well... but i can't seem to import it into that as well.

acid pro 5 isn't free software though, right?

ok,,, so i'll use pitch function on sound forge 6. every time i try it though... my bass track (done on guitar top strings of course), slows down immensley. its tempo.

how do i keep it from doing that? and just lowering an octave?
 
I'm not near my audio computer, but I can help after I get home from work.
 
Fetusborg, what multi-tracker (if any) are you using?

You should be able to use your VST's with that program.
 
I've got your answer right here, hot off the press. I've got Sound Fourge 6.0 open as I type this.

Highlight the part you want to pitch shift, and then go to

Effects->Pitch->Shift

The pitch shift window should come up. Now just set it up like in the picture I've attached. The "preserve duration" box was the key in this case.

whats up.
im using kristal audio engine. i know i should be able to import vst plugins, and i already have done so, a few compressores that i was reccomended here. but i cant seem to import any more. ivce got 3 folders of plugins i can import... and ive done so. but when i try and use them... only 1 folder appears. i'll try and figure out what the problem is... but if you've got any idea, that would be helpful.


MADAUDIO!: it worked brotha. thanks a lot for your help. now im messing with my pickups on my strat to try and get the cleanest, best sound. when i shift the pitch, invariably the sound gets: 1) muffled and 2) very slightly slows down tempo. don't really know why, but i guess it comes with the territory.

do you have this problem?

also... any idea of how i can EQ this bass sound, would be great. Its straigth up... playing C, F, A and D notes.

im only having problems now EQing the bass. i dropped it down an octave... but it sounds almost like crap. i dont know if thats just the price i pay for not having a bass... but im sure i can make it sound better.

it sounds slow at parts as well, weird.

if any one has had experience with this... and has a simple EQing formula that works... that would be cool

i was looking over the Kristal website, and it doesn't appear that it can load VST instruments (VSTi's). these plugs are not the same as ordinary VST effects, since they can synthesize audio. you're going to need a host program for the bass guitar plug in to load into. i use FL Studio for this (and Acid). you can download a crippled demo version from their website which i don't think saves files. however, you should be able to create a new file, load the bass guitar VSTi and play it with MIDI. you could either write lines in the piano roll and render the resulting file as a wav file, or use an external controller and record the output right into Sound Forge. i'm sure there are other free hosts out there if you search for them, at least demo versions of programs.

as for the missing VST effect folders, is it possible that Kristal only looks into one path on your computer for effects (check it's properties or options menu)? put everything in one folder and see if you can access them all. of course, it may not acknowledge the VSTi's, or it won't allow you to load them since they're not compatible.

to improve the bass sound you've already got, maybe check KRK-VST's website for amp modelers or preamp effects. lots of good stuff there. alternatively, use SF's EQ to boost around 4k and cut around 250-500. that may get you in the ballpark. i haven't tried before, but i don't think you'll get anything *too* convincing with a guitar since the strings are so different. maybe try playing the guitar with your fingers instead of picking?

oh yeah, and mess around with those "modes" in the pitch shifting page that MadAudio posted. they can make a big difference in the sound.
