I am about to build a new computer and was wondering if anyone could give me any input or ideas. The computer will mainly be used for recording, Autocad and email.

So far the specs. will probably be:

2.6 processor or higher
1 gig ram
80 gig hard drive
128 mb video card

I dont know which way to with the soundcard, weather it should be an internal one or a external interface.
Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on how much money you want to spend on it and how many ins and outs you want. I'd stay away from a USB powered soundcard though.

I dont want to spend alot but I am willing to spend enough to have a nice set up. Not sure how many ins and outs I need, I am the only one doing the instruments so probably not many.
Kinda funny a Houston person replied, that's where I live.

Have a look at the M-audio audiophile pci card. Good quality, semi pro card.

For your PC I'd suggest an Asus mobo like one of the P4C800 models. Get a second hard drive just for audio files and the fasted cpu you can afford

Not only that but a dual vga card something like the matrox 450 and if u r talking about a usb interface such as the tascam 428 or mbox or something like that I've used both of them and have had no problems with either at all.

I have a Tascam 428 right now... Well lets say i'm looking to retire it. I got a e-mu 1212m card installed and i only use the Tascam to control Cubase. I think i'll get better results (sound) with an analog board in front of the ADA800 going into the Adat of the 1212m. Its a fact that Usb audio runs a little slow good luck recording more than a couple of channels at the same time simply not enough bandwidth. Maybe i'd change my mind about it if it were usb 2.0.

I guess that's why I don't have any problems with it because I only record 2 channels at a time at most. I am using pro tools at the studio I work for and used a friends mbox before so I am going to buy the mbox for my home setup and I am just gonna use the 428 as a control surface to control pro tools. I'm to poor to buy the 002 plus I haven't had my 428 a year yet just bought it back in april so it's gonna be around a while especially because I can use it to control pro tools.
