Is the MR8 a true 8 track machine or is it 5 track that becomes 8 track after bouncing? Is it possible to record on tracks 5 and 6 seperately? Can I get 8 seperate tracks in mono mode? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Love this forum. Have gotten some good info. Thanks pj

Yes it's an 8 track machine. You can put separate data on each of the tracks. When recording to either 5/6 or 7/8 they record as stereo. However you can record to tracks 1-4 and then move the data to 5-8 and re-do one of 1-4. When completed you have 8 tracks of data.

I then transfer those to the PC for mix down. I can then go back and do it again and get 8 more tracks. My PC mixer can handle up to 48 tracks.

Thanks for the reply Ed. When you say move 1-4 to 5-8. Are you bouncing to 5-8 or copy/pasting whole track data to 5-8? Also looking for software for pc mixdown. Any suggestions? Pj

I use the track copy functions in the MR8. My normal sequence is:

1. Record drums and bass (from MIDI) on T1
2. Record rhythm guitar on T2
3. Record lead guitar on T3
4. Record first vocal on T4

Then move T2 to T5, T3 to T6, T4 to T7 and record more data on T2-T4. I usually add real bass, more vocals, and perhaps a harmony lead line. You can continue this cycle as long as you wish moving finished tracks to PC, and then the combined result back to MR4 for monitoring.

I use the Fostex Wave Manager software to move tracks between MR8 and PC.
