Folks,

I've posted another MP3 called "Thunder on the Mountain" - http://www.mp3.com/smartapple

Please listen to the "hi-fi" version if you can.

The lyrics to this song are about my father splitting out on me when I was a teen, but I had originally intended the words to be implemented into a soft acoustic song. Instead, I decided to go toward a harder direction with heavy guitars, etc... and thought you could give me some input on the mix. I went hoarse singing this one. Thanks!!!

Great tune dude...

production is fine...one beef: humm from the bass????

Performance: Personally, the topic matter would have me screamin the vox...at least in parts :)

Arrangement: Second vocal harmony part singing one octave higher than what your singing.

Good stuff...really. I don't compliment that easy.

Ric,

Thanks for listening to it and for the input. Yah, you're right about the hum on the bass. I'm going to try and process a filter on the bass track.

Forgive for not knowing this, but what's "screamin the vox"?

Vocal harmony one octave higher - on the chorus or in the verses?

Thanks!

Hi Teddie..

Vox = Voice

Harmony on the chorus...it will be good. :D

Question..I noticed on your page you are using Roland drums...what model if I may ask?

keep up th good work!

Oh yeah...

Cool Edit has a very good feature for removing noise...you just need one spot on the track where all you have is the noise with no bass material...you sample the noise...(get a noise profile) then, you have CE process the track eliminating the noise criteria. It's works pretty good.

Sure thing. The Roland drums that I use is the R-70 model. Bought it about 6 years ago. It was around $650 at the time, but I think they drum units may have (should have) gone down in price.

I tried to do a "one-octave-up" harmony on the chorus vocal... I can't do it (I sound like I'm trying to be that dude from SoundGarden, which would be good if I sounded like him, but I sound like a little girl when I get up that high singing harsh)... I basically suck when it comes to singing hard like that. I dunno, maybe after my allergies pass, I'll try again.

I've heard nice things about cool-edit. Is that a multitracking software app, or is it mainly for sound sources?

Thanks!

Liked the tune, but didn't like the statistics. It pulled me out of the mood you got going, but others will probably disagree. Just an opinion, otherwise good work.

Layth

Powerful tune. I'd go with Layth. The stats didn't work for me. Plenty of emotion without that overdub. The bass hum was audible but not all that annoying.

They got a decent sound to them...

Well...it was just a suggestion. I was hearing what I'd do to it. My vocal range is
high...similar to Jon Anderson and Geddy Lee...so that part would be in my kinda range...it would add some impact on the chorus...that's all..it's still fine as is too. :)

It's a wav editor and CE pro is into the multi tracking thing...I just use the editor...I record with Cakewalk.Later. -r

Teddie,
Very well done tune. I'm glad I have some more time to listen to other peoples mp3's because it makes me want to improve my stuff. Great recording.
bobbo

Great tune...totally agree with losing the stats and some screamin' would be excellent....fine tune...gibs

Nice tune Teddie! I too noticed the hum at the beginning and am wondering if that's from the bass. You use a Bass Driver from Tech 21 don't you? I was thinking about buying one a while back and was a little disappointed with the hum I got.

I usually try to stay away from critiquing the creative aspects of a song, like lyrics or the music, but I agree on nixing the stats. It makes a personal/emotional song kind of sterile. Other than that small issue, everything else is fine. Well done man. I've got to say, I really enjoy your music. I look forward to your next one!

Layth, thanks for the input. I'm going to consider pulling the stats part out.

drstawl, thank for listening. I'm closer to considering pulling the stats part out.

Ric, yah, I like this Roland drum unit. It's really worked good for me for what seems to be quite a long time (years). I also had this great little drum unit called "Dr. Rhythm" and it was made by BOSS (I think). It was way cheaper, although less features, but I recall the quality of the drum sounds might have even been better than my current Rolands. I completely agree with you on the chorus thing. I might get one of my friends to try and sing that higher part. I'll check out that Cool-Edit program... thanks for the info on it. I wonder if there is a shareware version of it... I'll check.

Gibs, hey thanks again for taking time to listen to the new one and for the compliment and input. I'm even closer now to muting the stats and remixing. Regarding the screaming - I tried... I sound like a girl.

CMiller, thank you as well for listening and for the compliment. I'm truly glad you enjoy what I've been putting out there. Regarding the bass DI; yah, it's a Tech21 SansAmp. It is kind of noisy. I usually try and turn the computer monitor off while I play quiet parts like the beginning of this song, but I may have forgotten. If I listen to it with headphones, I can hear it quite a bit. I'm going to mute the stats and remix. I appreciate everyone's honesty on the stats thing. I was trying something to fill that measure, but yah, it will probably sound better without the jabbering stats.

bobbo, thanks for the compliment. Send me a link to your stuff. I'd like to listen.

Thanks everyone - I'm going to remix now.
