can anybody confirm motu releasing a new ultralite? i think it's called the mk3. if anyone knows how it's different then the previous version (if i'm correct that there is a new one at all) i'd like to know... now maybe the older one will go down in price...

Upgraded converters (192 kHz instead of 96 kHz) and additional mixing/DSP/EQ functionality in the device itself for live mixing.

hm interesting, so the features aren't totally updated. do you know the price ?

supposed to be the same price i think... I'm kicking myself for not waiting for the 828mkIII. I've got an 828mkII, and the new effects/EQ for the mixing seems like a godsend... i want it soooo badly. What a great feature to have if you use your interface as a digital mixer (which i do for super low latency monitor mixes)

what are monitor mixes?

I use the built in mixer in the MOTU to give each player their own headphone mix during tracking. The digital mixer in the MOTU's is low latency (suitable for live stuff) so it works out really well. Everything just plugs into the MOTU, and I get to record, and make live mixes from it. Having the EQ and efx would be great since a lot of times players will want to hear a slightly EQ'ed version of themselves or another player (or sometimes the singer likes to hear a little verb on their voice).

oh really? thats wicked, i didn't know you could use all the outs for head phones (well i guess it's a no braininer) i've never worked with audio outs except through aux jacks or usb or firewire, and have never really used the outs on my mixer (i only have 2) but yeah, so you make headphone mixes, can you control what sounds gets sent out what headphone, so that the guitarist only hears the drums and bass but not the singer?

that's the idea... can't run headphones straight off of the outputs though... gotta run the line-level outs into a headphone amplifier first.

aw really, you can't use the outs for headphones? why not? does this apply to all interfaces.... then what's the purpose of having so many outs like the ultralite has. and also whats line level outs? a certain volume compare to....?
