I went to Sam Ash this week end. I was looking for a pair of overheads for about $200. Well, they tried to sell me these cheap Samson pair, which I already owned and decided to upgrade from. Anyways, they didn't have anything in that price range so I figure if I can't buy 2 decent mics for $200; I could buy one good one. I chose the RODE - NT1. I tested it out as an over head this week end. It picks up everything, even a mouse's fart. I plan on getting another one next pay check.

Do any of you have an opinion on this mic?

the NT-1 was among some of the mic's that I auditioned recently when I got my baby bottle. I figured, if it was close in performance to the baby (which I already loved) then I'd get two and have a matched pair. It was nice, I will give it that, but nothing close to the NTK and the BLUE that I auditioned. Great mic for the dollar, though. It just wasn't quite what I was looking for at that point. I would, in the future, love to get a pair when cost allows to have a matched pair of LDs.

How do you like it? Maybe some clips of it would be in order?

I had to use an unmatched pair of overheads this past recording session. I could only afford one R0DE microphone. I used the RODE - NT1 and an Audio Technica AT4040. It came out decent. I liked the fact that both mics are sensitive and pick up everything.

Here's a recording of the band I did this week end.

The bottom 2 mp3s are from their past demo. I think it's a step up.

What sort of positioning did you use for those overheads? sounds like a really spaced pair to me.

I positioned them about3 feet away from each other facing down towards the cymbals
