I just acquired a new mic the other day - the CAD GXL2200

And Im currently running it straight into my StudioV3 ART pre-amp and then straight into my computer (recording vocals)

And tomorrow I will be receiving this new mixer I ordered - Yamaha MG102C 10-Input Stereo Mixer with Compression

I would post links to products but it wont let me - im too new

Each line on this new mixer has its own pre-amp as do most mixers and it even has a built in dynamics compressor knob so that i dont have to do it digitally anymore

My question is should i run the mic into the pre-amp - then into the mixer ---- or should i just run straight into the mixer? I know if i go into pre-amp first ill have more voicing options (valve, vocal, etc) because it has the tube... but im worried that running from pre-amp to mixer will have more feedback or hiss... Im not sure yet because I havent gotten mixer yet but Id like to prepare myself for ideas.... What should I do guys?

come out of the preamp into line in on your mixer.
It's not a good idea to go from preamp to preamp.

Im assuming the compressor will work rather i go into the 1/4 line in or the xlr ? or at least i hope so

IDK ..... I'm thinking yes, but then again it may not.
Read up on the manual via the web site.

But if worst comes to worst you have compressors in your DAW .... right?
What are you using as your recording software?

yes Im running an old Cool Edit - 2.1 i think... I does have a digital compressor - i just wanna get it done before it hits my comp... since its a bad idea to go from pre to pre - would it be okay if i run my mic into my original preamp and give the mic the phantom power there - then run an xlr cable to the mixer and just leave the phantom power off on the mixer? Or should 1/4 inch from pre-amp to mixer?
