Just finished writing a new tune..I still got alot to learn, but I really need some opinions. I havent written or recorded vocals yet, that will most likely be done tomorrow.. so..please let me know what I should do to the mix.. i still might re-record the guitars again, but I just want to get a general idea of what I should do. I already gave the guitars a high pass..but as far as anything else I need to do, im pretty stumped. And I definately need to record the bass again. I tune my guitars down to bFlat using super beefy strings, and I was using a 4 string bass, so I need to borrow a friends 5 string, because the strings are too FloPpY! :spank: Thanks..

me too...I liked it. I would say bring up the snare and toms, clean the kick up a little, maybe more definition in the bass but the guitars sound pretty solid. They seem overpowering only because half the kit is too low. Once the bass is cleaned up a bit, it will help define the guitar sound more.

heavy.....

I dug the rhtyhmic nature of the riffs, very cool stuff there. As far as the mix goes, I don't want to comment too much, I'm listening on laptop speakers. It seemed like everything was clearly audible. Can't wait to hear it with vocals. Hopefully they aren't all stereotypical cookie-monster vox!

Nice riffs and good definition. It's easy for downtuned guitars to descend into mush but you've kept them pretty well defined. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the papery kick - any way to dial some more beef in there?

Cool riffage.

The clarity is pretty damn good compared to what I expect to hear in this sort of piece. I too am not a fan of the kick sound, but then again I know next to nothing about this form of metal.

Nice work.

Nice grindage!! Good clarity with such heavy-duty tone. You have a good ear for this kind of metal. I would like to hear the vox with this, it gets a little tiresome without them. What was the guitar tone chain?

Nice kick-ass tune and sound!
Yeah that snare could come up a bit, the kick tone is exactly the way it should be for this kind of thing, don't touch it! I absolutely dig the guitar tone, how many guitar tracks do you have there? What kind of vocals are you gonna have on this? I can imagine something Mastodon-like.....
Beautiful, love it!

Nice work man. In it's current state, it obviously feels a bit more like a backing track than a complete song--but it sounds big and powerful. Nice. Looking forward to hearing it with some vox.

Good guitar playing.

The first thing I noticed mix wise was that it's very narrow. I'd like double tracked guitars spaced out big and wide.

Drums get a little monotonous. Sometimes they play so fast they sound like a motorboat.

I use to EQ the guitars with a high shelf about a few dB and lower the mids about 400-700hz just a few dB, I also use to go for a slight boost about 200hz.
But it's all up to taste :) Cool riffs!

Damn.. thanks everyone for the kind words.. I dont even know where to start.. Im still learning the whole mixing/mastering phase of recording. UN, I have 2 guitar tracks. For the guitar tone chain, Im going straigh from my line 6 Spider 4.. (kick ass amp, i dont care what anyone says!) The vocals wont be cookie monsterish, but metalish.. \m/ im gonna attempt to do all the things u guys mentioned.. I will post it soon. thanks everyone!
