I am a total newbie to home recording. I have an steel-stringed acoustic guitar with a pick-up and a classical guitar without. I have a Clavinova keyboard, a laptop and a Macbook with Garage band. I have lots to record... so, by the time I pay for studio time I could have bought the gear. So, where do I start?

Hey y'all, from deep in the Georgia/Alabama Southern rock scene.... I've been playing with home recording for a few months now. I just found this forum & have been doing a lot of reading here. Lots of info to absorb. Looking forward to the day I can contribute.....Thanks in advance....

Hi all, wooptiedoo (netherlands) and i switched from FL11 to ableton live 9 suite, just done installing it so im as fresh as a 1 day old baby and therefore i might sometimes ask stupid questions because right now i find the program very complicated compared to FL

Hey Wooptiedoo, good name and welcome. Ableton is really a different animal that the other DAWs. It is part DAW, part composer, part instrument. I've been using Ableton now for about 2+ years and I am still learning all the things it can do. There are lots of tutorials on youtube that will help in getting you started. One thing to remember, while session view is where a lot of people work and is really good for composing and performance, arrangement view is as for powerful linear recording as any other traditional DAW.

Hope we can help you on your journey.

Hi there David, nice to meet you here mate, for now im pretty busy with the interface, sessionview and all that, and only making some loops, i managed to get a loop running, and allthough i find the program hard to use, i,ve decided to stick with it because the quality in the end is in my opinion way better than FL, so i have a long way to go haha, on this moment i got some basic things down and im just repeating that over and over till i can do it in my sleep but whehn i move on and run into problems or need some advice i will know where to find you. Thnx

Hi all,
I love recording, I'm not that good at playing but I have a vibrant imagination and love exploring sound.
I started off with a portable tape recorder when I was about 10 and got a fourtrack when I was 17, took inspiration from Buddy Holly who was a pioneer I think in multi track recording. The dawn of the DAWS was massive for me helping to realise my dream of recording and mastering.
I was into electronic music in the early eighties but was always trying to produce a live sound, I did not have limitless musicians at my disposal so I had to settle for 8 midi tracks on my Korg M1 and four tracks on my Fosteck.
I learned to use loops to save on memory, played live but always wanted to record what was going on.

Hello
My names Jim and I'm from just outside Seattle, Wa. I've been playing guitar, bass and drums for about 50 years. Long time... I've been in studios and have friends that have home studios. I'm working on mine now
I play with some friends and use my Allen and Heath Zed 24 for live stuff. I have just bought a Focusrite Pro 40.
I right now. Just trying to see what works with my workflow...
I have an Art tube pre,
An Anteres AVP1
A Rane MC22 compressor
A Berringer Composer Pro compressor
A DOD Equalizer
A Rane PE15 Eq
A BBE 362 and 462
A Microverb III
And Digitech 128+ multi effects
I play through a pair of Ceriatone JTM45's through a variety of cabs, a 76 SFPR, a webber low power tweed twin, a 68 Marshall Super Lead and a 71 Hiwatt DR103. There's some other stuff around here but that's the main gear.
Lots of guitars...I have some LPs 335's and Fender stuff. Mostly I'm a Tele guy.
I have some cheap mics, a couple 990's, some SM57's and SM58's. Also have some SM48's we use on stage
Mostly play blues, rock, some jazz...
It sounds like there are some very knowledgeable folks here. I'm sure I'll have questions
I'm not at all certain about which DAW. Heck...I have trouble just turning on a track...not at all used to this digital stuff. I'm way more used to tape...
Anyway, nice to be here

Ian, from Spain (Málaga).

Bass player (and guitar player - and former violinist-). Very into new wave of metal of those days (Djent, metalcore etc., but I still prefer the sound of the natural instrument; like real drums instead of the ultra produced Superior Drummer).

Building my own studio with my main band, and recording and producing for other bands that comes around. Nice to be here!

Hey, I'm new around here! this is my first post! I've been around forums before but I couldn't seem to find the rules thread o.o just wanna brush up on rules before I start posting too much.

Hi everyone, My name is Dave and I have been gigging and recording for many years. I have been a member of another "sound" forum for a while and, on recommendation, thought I would check you lot out. Have a great New Year. Dave

Herro! Like most it seems, I've been walking the DIY road for a long-while (more specifically, whatever DIY road can be found in the Midwest) and am really really glad I stumbled on this site!

Hi Folks! I'm not a musician, but a guy with about 30 years radio broadcasting as a DJ, news talk host, etc.

Starting with splicing reel-to-reel tape, moved on DAT tapes and early digital recording with destructive (cannot be undone) edits and a 550 MB (not GB) SCSI drive that was for AV recording and cost $1,000!

I've written and produced audio books on using DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Modems and even "Exploring Music and Sound on Your PC!" That last one was way ahead of it's time, but covered everything from sampling rates to good vs bad mics and MIDI and MOD files!

Still recording and producing for radio as well as voice-over work. But now explaining "how to" stuff for digital camera owners!

I use a variety of small recorders and sometimes still go from analog to digital with a USB converter plugged into a vintage Peavy board. Edit with Adobe Audition 1.5 (still perfect for radio use) and a variety of mics from Electrovoice to Chinese knock-offs.

I am experimenting with a boom-box shaped recorder from Tascam that goes to SD and sometimes even use an iPad2 with adapter for XLR mics.

My name is Clay and i am new to this... i have a question about the dm4800 and the firewire card connectivity to my pc, where should i post this, or does anyone seeing this know?.....
thanks
