just bought a macbook...(not a macbook pro).

and it has two USB, but no FIREWIRE just like all macs...minus the $999 one and the macbook pros, which have Firewire 900.

will this be a problem to run pro tools? can i just do my dump onto an external USB drive, instead of a firewire drive...or should i return the macbook and get the $999 mac, which has firewire, and tweak it so it has 2 GB? thoughts? I was simply going to be running the Mbox on this thing, but want to make sure Ive gotten the correct machine?!?

#1
the machine i got has
2.0GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR3 Memory
160GB hard drive1

i could return it and get the macbook and tweak it so it has
#2
2GB DDR3 Memory
160GB hard drive1
and it would have firewire...!!!

is there a difference in #1 and #2? if so, what is the diff? if not, shouldnt i just retun the first one (alumnium) and get the cheaper-looking white one...have it bumped up in memory and go? or is there some huge advantage to the first one?

Pro Tools will work with your new Macbook - just you can only use one of the USB Interfaces: Mbox 2 Micro, Mbox 2 Mini, or Mbox 2.

The trouble is you may not be able to achieve maximum track count due to the Hard disk. I wouldn't recommend a USB disk at all; and the system disk isn't a safe bet for large sessions.

That said if you're only doing a few tracks it'll probably be ok.

I personally would get the old style Macbook and use a firewire hard disk. This would also allow you the possibility of using a 003 or Mbox 2 Pro in the future.
