New Line 6 Spider III Samples

Yea, yea I know it will never sound as good as a well mic'ed mesa boogie, marshall, etc tube amp. But it sure gets close enough for a guitar player to have lots of fun. A lot of these clean and medium gain type samples sound tons better than most might expect.

I didn't really think any of those clips sounded good at all. Would be cool for live use but in a studio, nah. Might still buy one.

The only thing I don't really like about any type of modeller is that a setting will sound the same, no matter what guitar or pickup you put into it. I like being able to hear the character of the guitar in my sound.

I think the clips sounded pretty average, but there are a lot to choose from! It'll good fun to muck around on now and then, but it'll be useless for those who want a unique sound, which is what most guitarists are looking for nowadays.

I own a Spider II 30 and the fx samples EXACTLY the same as these my own amp. The amp models do sound a bit different, but not exactly better. The high gain ones all lack meat and have too much fizz imho.

Check out the "Hey joe" and "Wind cries mary" settings.
They sound pretty decent. You guys can be tone snobs all you want, but I have probably heard a couple hundred worse sounding recorded guitar tones that posted on this site in the last few years, and this is one of the better sites.

There's a couple that might be usable but I'll lay down $5 that any of us who have used modeling could get those tweaked better than that.

I've heard decent multi-effects, but when it comes to amp/cabinet modelling I think they still have a long way to go.

Just doesn't sound right unless the sound is coming out of a real speaker.

It's also not true.
A medium gain setting played with a strat and single coils will sound bluesy/crunchy, take the same setting with a heavy bodied guitar with an EMG 81 and it will sound metal. That's just one example.

Amra, my experience with a line 6 spider II was during a rehearsal for a school concert. I didn't own a decent amp at the time, and was totally blown away by the line 6. A Few months later I bought my Marshall...and I saw the light So I'd be inclined to agree with what was said...I know how to tweak my Tele to get pretty mcuh any sound I want...I also notice the way it 'breathes' down to its finish, and the more treble afforded by a maple neck. I do think a modeller sucks alot of this 'character tone' out of the process...I don't want EVERYTHING to sound like an SG through a Plexi Combo.

...Sounds even worse than the Spider II series. I've had combos from the original Spiders and the Spider II, and it just seems like the cooler they try to make them, the worse they sound. And for the record, they get completely lost live.

I have a spider II amp, and yeah, I've heard all the crap about them, but it works for me and I've never had the chance to play on a marshall or any tube amp for that matter. But yeah, these sound clips sound just like my spider II.



Also, for the sake of not having to make a new thread, anyone have a good tube amp or a really nice amp that they might suggest me looking into? preferably something decent sized, like I don't know, at least 80 watts? And something that would be good for studio work. Thanks for the help

Why do you need 80 watts? That's incredibly loud for a studio and way more than you would probably need unless you were playing a small arena. Also what type of tone are you looking for? Good brands to start with would be the usual suspects, Marshall, Fender, Mesa Boogie, Vox, also you could look at Bogner, Diezel, Traynor, Peavey, Soldano, Orange, honestly you just need to do some research, there are ridiculous amounts of good tube amps out there.
