hey

guys im new, im currently running 3 firepods onto nuendo 3 bootleg, and i also just purchased 2 saffire pro, got them used and the kid gave me logic pro so i can use my macbook, i found an ad locally for a used m308 tascam analog mixer, im very interested and at the same time i found someone close by that has 2 analog tape recorders for 15 a piece that have been sitting in his basement for over 15 years untouched, im thinking of picking them an the 308 is only 150 bucks and its pretty mint

what do you guys think

First of all, ditch the nuendo bootleg. Most members around here frown heavily on pirated software. Look for software on the internet and pay for it.

Secondly, have you scouted out tape for those analog recorders? That stuff is getting harder and harder to come by, and it's expensive. I'm not trying to sway you away from anything, I just want you to know what you are getting into.

Lastly, yeah, $150 is pretty cheap for that mixer. But you might want to take it in to a qualified tech and have them look it over and clean it up. Make sure all the pre amps, phantom power, the meters, everything is working. Check it for grounds and things like that.

Good luck and welcome to the boards.

One other thing I forgot to mention: recording on tape and mixing in software is considered a hybrid system. You are going to need some really good A/D D/A (analog to digital, digital to analog) converters.
