thats the first i heard.....i'd be willing to try one out

It's not on the MXL site yet. This is from mixguides:

MXL V6
March 2005—The second offering in its Silicon Valve™ Series, MXL's (www.mxlmics.com) V6 is a large-diaphragm condenser designed to produce the sound of a tube mic. The V6's solid-state FET amplifier with balanced transistor output reduces harshness created by odd-order harmonics and musically unrelated distortions. The V6 is housed in a metallic green body with a 24k gold-plated grille and is supplied with a cherry wood box.

"Silicon valve"? That's a new name for a transistor, huh? Well, that's marketing hype. It doesn't mean the mic sucks, though. I'd love to hear it.-Richie

I think Harvey Gerst may have tried one of the series or even has one....shoot him a PM to check out this thread......

They sent me their prototype for evaluation and we thought it was a pretty nice sounding microphone. I had to send it back, but everybody here thought it was a very good sounding mic.

Harvey, you're always a diplomat. Do I sense a whiff of "damning with faint praise" though?
Or are you saying that you didn't have a chance to do comprehensive testing?

Far from "damning" it, we really liked the sound of it. They needed it back and we sent it back, otherwise, I'd have bought it on the spot. We didn't get to try it against a lot of our other mics, but it was a really nice sounding mic. It was their prototype, so I can't compare it to the production run, which is why I haven't talked about it much.

Thanks Harvey! Didn't mean to put you on the spot.

......I can't help but notice though, your description has gone from "pretty nice" to "nice" to "really nice", :D ...which gives me hope!

Am always grateful for your 2 cents :)
