This is by the same band I posted last week. Not really my kind of music, but I kinda dug the riffs. My only involvement was recording/production.

As always, feedback, comments, constructive criticism on the recording is welcome....
Regret is in (MP3 128kb)

My message that I'm typing is based on listening to in some really nice headphones. Unfortunetly I'm not at my normal computer at the moment.

The snare sounds pretty far back almost like it is taken from overheads instead of a seperate mic? The vocals seem a little loud for the style. Kick is nice and beefy however if there are any major double kick rolls in other songs this will work against you a lot. The left guitar channel sounds a little more dominant then the right channel.

My suggestions if possible: Bring up snare (maybe take a little low end out, add a little compression for a better sound for the style). Take kick down just a little. Up the guitar on the right channel just a little. Turn vocals down just a hair.

Again I'm listening in headphones so some of this might be just a little skewed. The over all mix sounds very bright and up front in these headphones though :)

that's a pretty cool tune...

some opinions

the kits seems to lack punch... I liked the snare but it's missing something... overall kind of dull

I didn't care for the reverb on the VOX. I'd probably distort the screaming some and push it out front more.

the bass may need something... I like to have the bass as an extention of the GTR, but this stood on it's own

overall I liked it.

I would suggest adjusting your compression settings a little....maybe raise the threashold, and back off of the ratio...you also might want to try a longer release...I can hear some pumping from time to time....

The vocals need to be more in your face. Other than that, like I asked in the other post, how did you do the kick?

Take care,
Adam.

Thanks for the feedback guys...
The kick is triggered using KTdrum Trigger and Cubase's LM-4 drum machine...

i listened to both mixes and still have to agree with -keiffer- on the "what's missing in the snare attack"

for me that style of music relies heavely on teen angst, so would entail a more aggressive focus on drum and vocal.

i hardly have an idea as how to relay a solution, do to lack of engineering skill, so i'll leave it with a more street sound critique.
