new drum sounds

so I am looking to get new drum sounds by using my sequencer in my roland xp50 via midi out to an alesis dm5 module. Will this work...I am a midi idiot?....like hitting the key on the roland (which is always the snare..most of the time) and having it trigger the snare sound on the alesis.

Mapping

You may have to consult the manuals for both those machines to make sure the MIDI note numbers are lined up,e.g.if the kick drum on the Roland is played by C #36 but the kick in the Alesis is note #35,you'll have to change one or the other to get the right sound.
