i've had my miltimix fw 16 for about 4 months now. up till now i've had the commen problem of stuttering audio due to bad drivers. anyway, i checked out the alesis site and saw they had new drivers dated march 2007 available for download. i thought 'hopefully these new drivers will work properly and i won't have to go through the annoying procedure of restarting cubase every time my audio begins to stutter'. so i immediately downloaded them and instatlled them and what do i get?!

the playback is even worse than before. with my old drivers installed, i could get about 5 mins of normal playback before it started stuttering and i'd have to restart cubase to get another 5 mins. now i can't even get any audio. just pops and crackles straight away. it doesn't make sense that the latest drivers are less effective than the older ones.

i know alot of people have had these problems with the multimix and was just wondering if anyone has found a solution

thanks

What kind of system are you running? Processor/Hard Drive/Memory

I recently upgraded my hard drive to a 7200rpm SATA drive and it made a huge difference. NO stuttering.

On my laptop, it would stutter and do all kinds of wierd stuff but it had a 4200 rpm hard drive. Too slow. Could only handle about 8 tracks. The hard drive was definitely the problem here as it had a gig of memory, and a 3.06 processor.

My desktop has only 512 of memory and a 2.4 processor..rock solid.

Are you using a MAC? Since PC drivers have not actually been updated since 12/2006.

i'm using a g4 1.2g ibook with 512 ram and a 7200rpm external usb drive. i don't think it's anything to do with the power of the mac or hard drive because the problem got worse when i installed the new drivers. i was recording 10-12 tracks with the old drivers stutter free for about 5 mins but with the new drivers the audio clicks and pops as soon as i start recording. also, i have no problem with playback when i use my tascam us-122 as my soundcard, so it must be something to do with the alesis.

i assume that if it were a cpu, disk speed or ram issue then the audio would stutter as soon as i hit play when i had my old drivers installed. this is why i'm thinking its a driver issue

any thoughts?

thanks

Ho did you updated the drivers? I'm just playing tech here so I'll start with the silly questions:
Did you follow this instructions?:

4. Mac users: If you are using drivers issued before December 2005, you will need to uninstall these drivers using a third-party Mac utility.
Alesis recommends the free program DesInstaller, which can be downloaded from http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13955.

If using Desinstaller, click on the blue magnifying glass icon on the left.
Find the listing "Mac OS X MultiMix 1.1d9.pkg," click it, and delete it using the icon with the big red X in it, fourth from the left.

5. Mac users must use Safari or Firefox to download these updates. Do not use Internet Explorer.

i downloaded the drivers off the alesis website using safari on my ibook. i read the read me txt and followed all the steps, using the cleaner program provided to wipe the previous drivers and restarted my computer etc. as far as i know, i've done all the right things
