Death Metal Freak
This is a mix of my new Death Metal song with vocals. I would love to get any and all coments good or bad.

2 guitar tracks paned left

Another cool track bro. I think this one is sounding better than the last one too.

Leave it to me to make comments about the drums again..... :p

That 16th note ride cymbal that starts around 1:06 is really distracting.
You should try that part with the ride cymbal playing triplets just like the guitars, you know three hits per beat instead of four.

I might use a little less reverb on the vocals, but that's just me.

Otherwise, awesome track. I like the guitars. Sounds like you're digging that V-Amp pro!

I can't get 3 hit per beat or it will be out of timing so I am not sure what your talking about there.

For the part your talking about I with my drum machine software I it as

Number of Measure in this pattern: 1
Number of beats per measure: 16
Number of steps per beat: 8

Maybe you can explain it better or maybe I am just not understanding you at all.

I think that the music sounds great.....however, I can't understand a word being said....maybe its just me....otherwise....I liked it!!!

If I understand what you're explaining about your drum software, you would need to input 6 steps per beat (or some multiple of 3).
Do you understand compound meter? Anytime the beat is subdivided into groups of 3. That guitar riff sounds like it's in 12/8, but the ride cymbal suggests 4/4 with the 16th note hits. That's why I find it distracting.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Sounds good to me!!! It's like a mixbetwwen death metal and brutal death. It get s alittle repetitive at the end, that's the only thing I can complain. Maybe you coul put a solo somewhere, it will spice up the tune.
 
oh wow. i agree on the ride being distracting. and that sample is hideous. maybe you could change it up a bit? the kick is bloody odd sounding as well.
 
Wow... Sounds appropriate for the genre... That ride is definately distracting... The toms around 1:45 doing those fills sound extremely robotic... I guess that is fine seeing that it's a machine...
 
Wow fucking brutal man. Nice guitar tones, good vocals (little too much reverb/echo). The snare doesnt sound too bad sample wise. The kick drum could do with a bit more balls (through its fine for the genre, im a grind man who likes a big meaty fuckin bass drum).

Ugh I agree - KILL THAT CYMBAL BELL SAMPLE!!! If you cant find another throw it way back into the mix so its not up front.

Overall very impressive stuff. Nice fills on the drum machine, and as I said the bass/snare samples go well together. Pretty cool song as well, and I'm usually not a huge fan on traditional death metal.

If youre looking for a cool band in the same vein of you guys, we just signed some guys called Spiritual Dissection. Brutal death, but with so much speed and mind blowing technicality itll make you shit yourself!

Do you understand compound meter????? WTF??? LOL...I have no idea dude. Maybe if I post a screen shot of my drum machine software you can see wht I am talking about, not sure. THe K, R, S example you have above is exactly what I have programed so I am not sure what I might be doing wrong in the programing part for the ride in the part your talking about. If I can not get it just right I will just go with the hi-hat or just slow down the ride a bit. I would like to be able to get it to where your talking about so I can hear it myself...LOL

Glad you like it dude. Yeah, I am inot more of old-school death metal (Morbid Angle, Broken Hope, Death, Obituary, Pestilence, Malevolent Creation and so on) so I tend to write stuff like that. I was messing with putting a solo near the end but I could not get it to fit just right. I am not the best at leads but maybe I will just do some fast and crazy solo just to mix it up.

Glad you like it for the most part. I am going to be tweaking it more over the next few days and will post another clip with some of the sugestions in this thread. I like the kick sound I have and it took me forever to get it...LOL Just enough "click" for that death metal sound, the snare could be a better but it is ok.

Yeah, I am going to mess with that and if I can not get it to sound good I am going to just throw a hi-hat in and get rid of the ride.

Let's see if I can explain it differently. If you don't acknowledge the ride when it hits in unison with the kick or the snare.....just pretend you don't hear those hits....It would sound like this:

Kick-ride-ride-snare-ride-ride-kick-ride-ride-snare-ride-ride
Or like this- 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3
If you count it while accenting the first of each triplet:

1-2-3-2-2-3-3-2-3-4-2-3

You'll see that it's in groupings of three, and that is called compound meter.

The guitar riff during that part is in 12/8 meter. Meaning there are 12 1/8 note triplets per bar. That basically means for each quarter note (the kick and snare) there are 3 notes from the guitar. You can count the guitar riffs in 3's with each beat. Can you see what I mean? You can still count the kick and snare as 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, but the guitar (and the ride cymbal) would be counted like the example above: 1-2-3, 2-2-3, 3-2-3, 4-2-3

Some people would say: 1 and ah, 2 and ah, 3 and ah, 4 and ah - to represent the same timing.

Right now in your song you can count that guitar riff like this:
1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3

Your ride cymbal counts like this

1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4

That would be straight 16th notes.

For the most part I can understand what your trying to explain but not sure how to program the drum for what you mean. See the picture above for a portion of a screen shot I took of my drum machine software. You can see the ride, snare and kick, I am hoping you can see how I have it programed and then tell me how/what you mean regarding to it.

As you can see it is like this:

How are you talking to program it?

Ah, I see that for each beat, it is subdivided into 8 parts. In order to program the triplets corectly, it would need to be subdivided evenly into 6 parts per beat. Can you control that in the software? You're right, with the way it is now you could not program triplets.
