Im getting ready to build a new computer to use while I am in college and for recording. Im wanting to have 2 hard drives with a dual boot, that way i can have one for school, internet etc. and one for recording only. Heres what ive got so far:

AsusP4B533 MoBo Intel P4 478 with 533MHz FSB
Intel P4 2.66 GHz CPU
(2) Corsair 512 MB PC2100 sticks of DDRRAM
Maxtor 80 GB 7200RPM HD 8MB cache (DAW)
Maxtor 40 GB 7200 HD 2MB Cache (internet,school etc.)
Lite-On 48x24x48 CD-RW drive
Windows XP Home
Mid Tower case from Chieftech
400 watt power supply (suggestions?)
Cooling Fans (suggestions for quiet)
Maxtor G450 Video Card for Dual MOnitors

Thats the set up Ive got so far. I am open to suggestions on any of this. I based it on the Intermediate P4 DAW system from DAWBox.com. The sound card will be the the Delta 66 with the Omni studio. Im just wanting to make sure this will be a good setup for recording and general use. Im hoping that with 2 bootups I shouldnt have much interference with the 2 uses. Also if could tell me how to setup this setup up with a dual boot, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Also, in looking for the components, I noticed alot of them say OEM. What is it and what does it mean?

Seems like a mighty fine computer to start recording with. Nothing much to add to that.
Quiet cooling fans suggestions? Less is better. :)
No really. As long as you don't overclock the PC and arrange the cables inside so that they won't block the airflow through the case, you shouldn't have to worry about adding cooling fans.
I'm no expert at cpu coolers. Cooler specs often tell you how much decibels it makes. A decent cooler doesn't have to produce more than 20dB so that's a number to look out for I guess.

Thanks alot for the sugggestions and keep'em coming!

Anymore thoughts? I know you guys get these posts on here all the time, but I've been resaerching this stuff for about a month and Im just looking for some personal oppinons on it. Thanks

Yeah...about those heatsink/fan CPU cooler. Do NOT skimp on that piece of hardware. You want to get a QUIET HSF, and that might cost you around $30 or more. I have a dual Athlon rig, in a large Chaintec tower, and I had 2 Coolermaster HCC-001 HSFs in there - sounded like a Shop VAC, and I'm not kidding. They are made for O/Cing, and put out a whopping 59db!
I have since switched to Thermaltake Volcano 7+ HSFs, which have a controller switch on them where you can turn them WAY down. They put on 24db on low, which is pretty good for this size of a rig.
Either read some reviews and find a quiet HSF, or just shop for low db output. Otherwise, you'll hear it in the MIC.
Hope that helps, I learned the hard way.
