New control room, acoustic treatment or speaker placement first?

This is kind of a double edged sword here but what’s your opinion. Giving that my room dimensions are not going to change, I’m looking for some advice. In an optimum situation, we would be trying to find the best place in the room for the speaker, once that is found we add treatment for the trouble spots. On the other hand, we already know that this is not a dreamy new build situation so there will obviously be some necessary treatment involved. I have already assessed that Bass trapping, diffusion and high frequency absorption will all need to be addressed so is this the first issue? Treat the room so your monitors are comfortable or comfort your room for the coming frequency assault..........

I think mix position is more important than speaker position. If you consider the two speakers and the mixer as a solid triangle the whole thing can move backwards or forwards to a limited degree to reduce nulls and boosts. You could also lengthen or shorten the legs of the triangle. The first reflection points will move with the triangle but the front and back walls will require the same treatment regardless of the position of the triangle.

Well, there's probably less guess work here than it may seem.

You didn't give the dimensions of your room, but, assuming it's rectangular, you should ideally place your speakers 1/3 of way into the room, so that the speakers are shooting down the length of the room.

From there, I'd start with bass traps in the corners and absorption at the first reflection points.

Those are pretty much a given for starters.
