New Beat!

$30 isn't bad for a leasing price on a beat. I'd take that, but make sure you copyright it first and have your client understand that it is a leased beat, meaning someone else can lease it too and you own all exclusive rights for the beat. If they want to have exclusive rights to the beat (which basically means that you (the provider) and him (the customer) cannot sell the beat to anyone else (you still keep rights for publicity and royalties sake etc.), then they should expect a much higher price for that. Never sell yourself short.

He meant $30.00 for exclusive rights....... $30.00 to lease, is fine by me, I'd even go to $20.00 but.. yeah...

I told him no less than $50.00 for exclusive rights. Plus I was going to master all his tracks, and all that stuff.. so he was hopin' for a deal, but I let him in on the realization that I don't know how to master tracks, and that I only sell beats for now. So he said, well since you're just beginning I can only give you 30 bucks for the beat. I'm like, exlusive rights or lease? and he's like Exclusive..... so yeah...

Were that me, I'd turn that down. I feel that people are going to try to nickle and dime you any way they can. There's an example of it. It's up to you to decide what your beats are worth and what you think is fair bargaining. Now if the dude was a continuous customer and was constantly bringing you new business (i.e. other customers, not just buying more and more beats), I'd consider that as a "reward incentive" because you still keep the rights, production credits, and royalties. This is a shady game and sometimes you gotta let bullshit go in order to chase the diamonds.

It's terrible, but again, it's just a preview :) so he can give me some idears.

OH SHYYYT OH SHYTTT son u gon get that beat back tomorrow afternoon! :D

hey this beat is pretty good...the kick sounds too distorted though IMO, maybe slap a limiter on it to keep it from clipping.

Honestly, if this beat were mixed well, it would be a banger... The chorus needs some change ups to distinguish it from the verses, but outside of that... it's a banger.

To comment on the selling the beat issue... If this dude is a well known emcee in your area, he's doing lots of shows, he's selling CD's, and getting local press... sell himt he beat for $30. You'll get more business from his popularity than an additional $100 for the beat.

Now, if that dude is a nobody, and he's not making moves.. and he's a bedroom emcee (no offense intended) then I say hold on to it...

Sometimes, you have to know when giving a beat away, is better for your future business than haggling about the price of an exclusive beat. Feel me?

Finally some responses, now that I can reply to them all accordingly.

Thanks Noddy, for lettin me know, I'll watch my Inbox for that beat to fly through :).

Zed, thanks. I will definitely pull the kick down a notch or two, it does overpower it.

Poets, that's true. It's hard to distinguish, if this guy is really worth the 30 bucks for the beat or not, Sure, he's doin' alot of shows lately, he opened up for Lloyd Banks a while back, and he opened up for Tech N9ne and a couple others too. While doing his own shows, on the side. I'm not entirely sure what to do in this situation, as it is my first contracted beat sale.

Can someone post a recommendation for a contract and help me out with this one a little bit?

I have to start somewhere, and you never learn unless you take chances, but I'd rather know before I drop the bomb, ya feel me?

Thanks again for all the advice and input. Much appreciated. :D

not bad the bass is overwhelming and about as clear as mudd... could use some tweaking.. the overall sound seems to be highly eq'd giving it a 'peaky' sound... nice melody though.. has lots of potential
