Hi everyone (and a late merry christmas).

Santa brought me a Peavey c4 (i think thast what is called) bass. It cost £280 brand new and I adore the way it looks and feels.

The sound is not bad, but I was wondering if it was worthwhile upgrading the passive soapbar pickups currently in it? Even one of the 2 of them?

Who makes (and more importantly for how much), really good passive soapbar pickups?

I have no experience of buying pickups so any help/opinion is appreciated.

Humbucker makes some good pickups, i think they have a passive soapbar. If you changed the pickups, it will sound different *im sure you know this* so its really what you want the sound to be, try playing guitars at your local guitar shop that have different pickups in them to see if you like.

Hi. Just to share my story on pickups. I had a Fender P bass lyte with active P-J config. I paid a friend a small fee and spend $500 on 2 Alembic AXY soapbar pickups for it. They do sound great, but I now question how much of a differnce they make when the body of this bass is made out of inexpensive wood (basswood?). The overall sound is limited due to this. The point is to think carefully about wether it wil make a huge difference or not on your tone to try new pickups. For a more radicall difference consider installing active pickups? Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!
