Never talk to strangers - mix

Hey all

This will be the first posted song of mine for all to hear, a song me and my drummer recorded recently. The mix is still a little muddy and everything, but I thought I'd get some pointers on cleaning it up, or whatever else needs to be done. A friend suggested that the mix is a bit narrow because the drums are mono (only had two channels because the mixer was being borrowed). Any thoughts on this?

Anyways, all feedback welcome, thanks for any advice.



(BTW... drums: LDC kit mic, and SM57 beneath the snare, pointing at the kick, picking up both... so... the kick is lacking in the bass response)

neat man.
maby the vox are a little buried, or maby they need more compression as they seem fine sometimes and just a little buried others.
same on the snare, as it seems to hide a little sometimesbut others it's just fine.

hi-hat may be just a little loud (when open)??

mix compression???

is good man.!

Thanks man. I think maybe I just need to automate the vocal volume a bit, cause I already squished the shit out of those vocals. I gotta work on my mic technique. I hear you on the snare, too. Can't do anything about the hi-hat: only one kit mic used. :D Which is weird, cause it was set up on the other side of the drums as the hat.

oh, i ment to mention, good kit sound for 2 mics!!!!
 
thanks giraffe and travis. I'll take the lo-fi comment as a challenge to improve the overall sonic quality, although the vocals are purposefully not normal. Unfortunately my crappy pres have introduced a lot of hiss that I can't get rid of, but do you have any suggestions for mixdown that can clean it up?
