What would a Neve 1272 mic pre be best suited for? Recording vocals, bass, electric guitar??

In particular : http://www.brentaverill.com/1272/

Also...anyone have an idea of how much more noise I would get from this unit after stacking more than 10 tracks...in comparson to the Great River ME-1NV for example?

What would be the advantage of buying this peice of gear over the GR? Just curious...

frankly at this level ie; neve etc its all good imho.
but i would audition a dacs mic preamp that a lot of pros love
before i made my decision. but its VERY expensive.
as an alternative frankly i dont think much can beat the fmr preamps or vtb1's or rane ms1's for value for money.
if you want to compare preamps soundclick.com/bmanning
listen to one of my songs folks like called "i'm too old to rock and roll". the preamp was one i made diy for ten bucks.
using low noise parts. now listen to "take my love" done in an elite studio with high end everything or "H lady".
as you will hear , not a HUGE difference.
ive posted lots of engineering articles in the newbies section you might find interesting.
overall if your spendind big money at least giive the dacs a audition. read the rave reviews etc. but yes - the great river is
a beautu as well.
