Hi everyone, I am looking for an high end microphone for raping.

I am interested in buying Neuman TLM 103 d. But i have few questions ?

1) Is there a way that i can use the neuman tlm 103d like usb microphone by using some kind of other equipment. For example right now i am using samson G track usb microphone all i do is plug and play and i am all set. But i am looking into neuman product now.

2) Is this a good choice for a good high end microphone for rappers ?

This is how i do I get the beat from a friend that makes beats. I am looking for a high end microphone so that i can get good quality voice.

Please hep me with suggestions

If you've got the money, then buy it. It's a good mike. You will need to get an audio interface . . . there are reasonably priced USB ones around.

But . . . I reckon it's a waste of money. You are not going to get the potential benefits it can deliver unless your whole system matches it in quality. 'Plug and play' is not the usual way of getting this quality.

Theres a few better mics in the $500 range...and you get the top of the line Shures and AT...instead the bottom of the barrel Neumann...with that you are paying for the name mostly.

Look at the AT40 series and the Shure KSM mics...but if rap and HipHop are your main music you should consider the big dynamics like a Shure SM7 that is used a lot and is just $300...about $150 used...it was the mic used by MJ on Thriller and Bad...and you know what a Gangsta he was...lol.

Professional Recording Mic

Currently i have Samson G Track USB mic. So usb mic are not that good as other mics ?

I am very new to raping. This the equipment I have to start with

Have good quality sony vaio laptop
Samson G Track USB Mic with stand and pop filter
Audacity as recording software
Dr. Dre Headphones ( got it from a friend )
Beats ( I download them from youtube mostly instrumentals beats)

Please tell me what other software or equipment is required to sound more professional. What mic should i use, What recording software, etc.

This is how i try to record
1) Open Audacity, drag the beat to it
2) Click record then put the headphones
3) listen the beat through headphones and record on the mic
4) Then mix them and play

If you have $1000 to spend on a TLM103 .Buy a Used Audio Technica AT4047($350 on ebay) buy a Line 6 UX2 (USB) for ($100 Used) and save $650

I am a Neumann mic freak and a friend of mine bought a TLM 103 and I wasn't real crazy about it. Without the switches the U87 has it's not that useful a mic -it only does one trick.

But a mic is a marriage, so you need to try it and maybe it will go "click" and you'll love it.

I love my '92 Caprice and if you asked 100 people I'll bet all of them would say not to buy it, so in the end it's like shoes - you're the only one who has to like it and it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks.

Is that for 'rapping', or...?:eek:

That will work for most every vocal...the UX2 has models on it of pres that many here pay $1000 a channel for...and that AT4047 is as close to a Neumann u47 you might ever get with a mic that is under $3000
