I use XP essentials and when I installed Nero it said "Nero is known to have compatibility issues with this version of Windows." When I burn a CD it comes out distorted...

I contacted Nero about the issue and they were of no use.

Is there any other CD burning software out there that is good and inexpensive?

Thanks,
Tyler

I'm not a fan of Nero period. It's a huge resource hog. I recently installed then quickly uninstalled version 7. It sucked the life out of my memory and ate up gobs of CPU time.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. My own personal experiences keep me away from the hugely over-bundled product. Maybe my expectations were out of line but I was simply looking for a clean and simple CD/DVD burning application with Lightscribe capability.

Good luck.

Do you have Media Player (which usually comes with XP) ? You can burn a CD with it.

I have Cakewalk Pyro 2004 (I think of it as poor man's mastering software), with it you can record a stereo track from the "outside" (old records, cassettes), adjust volume of each individual song (within a group of songs you are going to burn to CD), create fade in/outs and crossfades (one song into another), normalize and maximize (compress), among other things (EQ, effects, remove hiss).

Pyro 5 probably does all the above plus it has extra features for ringtones. It is a $29 download:

CD Architect. I think it's only $50. It is worth way more than that.

Nero works better at slower speeds. Dont use the default setting of 40X.
