This is kind of awkward but i have no idea where else i could post and ask about this. So i don't have any experience with mixing or anything like that and so i have no idea how to connect the following set up and what cables and cords do i need. The mixer in the picture are Allen & Heath XONE42 and Behringer XENYX1204USB. What i have been able to find out that i need Y-adapters to connect the 3 headphone to the Behringer. Also i think that the turntables can be connected to input line 4 and 1 (upper slot) and the mediaplayer to the same line 4 and 1 (lower slot), but i don't know what cords i need. The biggest problem that i have is that how do i connect the two mixers together. The only thing that the instructions say is that i cant connect xone42 xlr-outputs to Behringerin xlr-inputs (channels 1-4). If anyone could help me i would be much appreciated. (Also sorry for the bad quality of the picture i had to re-size so it would fit to the page.)

Hi Loll and welcome.

I am not sure what you are trying to do and I am NOT a DJ! (well, a bit, in another life...)

Taking the equipment shown I will guess you want to connect the two turntables to the A&H Xone 42, plug in a mic for voice overs and send the whole shooting match sounds to a PA system?

That would require two stereo RCA/phone leads, decks to X42. XLR 3 male to female for mic and 2x XLR 3 male to whatever the PA equipment needs at the final end.

Well, if so the X42 can do all that, you do not need the Behringer mixer. Heck, the X42 can even play in sounds from a PC and record the whole proceedings thereupon via USB!

You seem good with pictures on a PC? (better than I!) so why not draw out a flow diagram from inputs to output?

Dave.

I'm even less of a DJ than ecc83 but I'd hook things up as follows:

-the two turntables to inputs 1 and 3 of the A&H

-the two media players to inputs 2 and 4 of the A&H (jumping this way will let you use the X/Y cross fade between the two turntables OR the two media players or 1 of each).

-use two XLR to TRS cables to go from the main outs of the A&H to either of the stereo line inputs of the Behringer--5/6 or 7/8

-the three mics to inputs 1-3 of the Behringer

-finally, instead of Y cables, I'd spend $25 on one of THESE to give everybody their own level control. (Price is from bhphoto btw.)

Oh! So Bobbs, you reckon the OP wants to use ALL of that stuff in the box?

So, WTF is he trying to do?

Dave.

Unless those turntables have phono preamps built in, I doubt plugging them into any of the inputs on the two mixers is going to give a strong signal.

Hi Mike,
The A&H mixer is fitted with pickup inputs....

I should have looked it up! First time I have ever heard of a mixer with phono preamp, must be made for the DJs.

Well, not everyone is such a specifications geek as me! Tis indeed a DJ mixer (hence the crossfade control) but there have been conventional mixers with RIAA inputs (beer into water electronically if you already have a mic amp!) One notable one was the Soundcraft Compact 10 (the C4 might have had then as well?) .
Even the odd tape machine! The Revox A77 had phono inputs proving perhaps that it was more "semi" than a semi "pro" machine?

Dave.

On the other hand, I jumped to the conclusion that the record decks had line outs--most DJ oriented turntables do these days.

If not, my suggested wiring would have to be turntables into A&H inputs 1 and 4 with the Media players in 2 and 3 (for the same reasons as before).

What's he trying to do? Maybe record a mega DJ show with 3 people talking/rapping at once? Who knows!

The thing is that this was one of the assignment of my collage digital media class and the only instructions for this task was a power point that contained only brief explanation what some some of the equipment was. Also i did not want to turn in a poorly made answer but thanks for your all for the help.
