I need to analyse vocal pitch on some tracks to see whats flat / off key - anyone recommend a good "preferably" free plugin to check vocal tracks?

I'm using cubase LE 4 and am browsing KVR database but was hoping someone might be able to recommend something

Actually I guess I can just run it out through a guitar tuner... kind of a pain but i can't seem to find any free tuner vst's that are dlls that work in cubase

Not sure a guitar tuner will 'react' quickly enough to give you an accurate result. Maybe download a trial version of Melodyne or Cubase 5 or 6 (VariAudio). That would tell ya.

If you think you're going to use pitch correction a lot, I would consider buying a full version of Cubase/Sonar/ whatever for around $300. Sonar Producer Edition has V-Vocal I don't know what Cubase has. A good full version DAW like Sonar will last several years and is well worth the investment....

A full Cubase version will cost you around $400 from LE. The VariAudio is vaguely close to the way Melodyne works. Though very slow and not as functional. You will need to look into what type of pitch correction you want. It is however free with the software purchase so you get some of the bang for the buck and an unlimited version of cubase. I recommend trial versions first to see if the software seems to work for you. I am not at all familiar with what Sonar has to offer. So that may be an option as well.

I don't mean this a s a "snobby" sounding post, just giving you what I think is the truth....

If you need a machine to TELL you where your vocals are of tune, you've got bigger problems than you might imagine. You should be able to hear it. If you can't....take up drumming.

I would suggest getting Cubase 5. There is a pitch correction built in it will give you every pitch that you hit, not to mention if something doesn't sound right to you all you have to do is move up the pitch a half step a whole making it still sound decent (Doesnt give you that autotune sound either). The possibilities in it are endless. Also, I am not sure what interface you are using but I have a Line 6 Ux2 that I purchased which comes with a software called Gearbox, and inside that program there is a tuning program. I usually use it to see what key I can sing in and what key I should stay away from. Its actually a very decent software and comes in handy. Also comes with some presets to help. Hope this helps.

What do you have against drummers? They are great. I use my drummer to see if the stage is level. I can tell when it is because drool comes out of both sides of his mouth.
