I am using an electric guitar and I am mic-ing the amp ro record both clean and distortion guitars. The distortion is good, but the clean doesn't have any depth. what are some good mics to use for such a purpose?
you can also stereo mic your cabinet and balance the two out until you get a sound you like. You should also experiment with mic placements as well, dont just throw up a mic and hit record.
This question will get you a dozen or so different responses, so be prepared.
You didn't state your budget, but a good mic for the price would be a Shure SM57 (actually, using 2 or 3 SM57's would be optimum).
The other thing that you could do is look to your upper-right for the word "search", click on it, and put in the words "recording guitar". You'll get tons of posts that discuss this subject.
If it's just for micing electric guitar through an amp, then i would recomend an AT4033, i don't think you would need the extras of the 4050.
I recomend this mic cause whenever i have used it or heard it on an amp it has sounded great. Also there are lots of great reviews on the mic, and esspecialy on guitar amps.
