Ok, this may sound really ignorant, but i just need to know . Umm i have a 4 track recorder, and i just wanna know how to record the drums, cuz from what i understand, there is only one mic left for the drums, and i cant mic the whole thing with just one mic, so i just need to know what to do, thanks..

If you want to be able to edit (EQ) drum sounds separately (cymbals, snare, hi-hat...), you're going to need more tracks. A 4 track has its limitations.

You have the best nickname on this board!

You might take a stereo mic, Sony used to make them, and that might just give you enough depth to do a fair job with the drums on a 4 track.

Get on track. Get a 16 tracker and worry no more.

are you recording a whole band at the same time?....

you can record the whole kit with 4 mics and bounce it to 1 track and the rest of the band can use the 3 free tracks.......

You might look into getting a cheap 4 channel mixer. Like this one: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...0046308931/search/g=home/detail/base_id/35499

That would allow you to use 4 mics at once to mic the kit. Then take the output of this into 1 of the channels on your 4 track. You would have to do all of your EQ and mixing before each of the signals hits the tape, but with a little fiddle farting, you can get some good sounds. But for the money, it would work well, expecially in a live application. Also, some 4 tracks have additional inputs built in that you can assign to a single track. Good Luck,

Gidge's idea will work too, although many drummers play better when they are playing with the band. That way you would have to record the drums first, unless you played to a headphone mix or something similar.
