Through at me some tips on writing songs for a full length album. I can never get ideas down without having the temptation of wanting to record the songs and then I get side tracked and it always turns into a real big mess. I want to try and move away from the recording stuff and just write and then bring it in to the studio. Any other tips that you guys have found work?

Not sure what your intentions are. If you mean to write a "conceptual" album, then write a bunch of songs about the main subject. Perhaps from differing points of view. Try to keep a common thread running through.

Before taking the music to the studio, make sure that you have all the arrangements down, and that the band is very familiar with the music. It can get very expensive to start making changes when you are in the recording phase of a project.

Listening to the beat is always an inspiration for me, but there is a lot more to it than that. One very big factor that helped me greatly is to have a little recorder with me at all times and record my ideas to make sure i didnt forget melodies or words, especially because i would forget my ideas like 2 seconds later. Another thing was to have a pen and paper always handy. Also, another helpful tool is rhymezone.com. Everybody is different though, you just have to find what works for you.

Lyrics arent everything. Lyrics just come to me its music parts im never satisfied with. I always change sounds and styles I wanna try to stay in the same genre and I want to be able to find my genre. Any tips?

here's a tip, you don't want to stay in the same genre, just the fact that you wrote the songs (especially if you sing on them, but it's not a requisite), that will be the one key feature that holds them all together, people will get a feel for your style, regardless of genre

Thank you GRN that helps me out a lot! I think I understand what you mean.
