Hey i dont know much about acctual computers or processors unless they are intel ( i know a good intel when i hear it, but thats my length of knowledge on processors)

so im looking to buy a new laptop to help me on location recordings, rights now as a desktop i have a inta audio PC its always handles what i throw at it no problem, the processor is Intel Core 2 Duo E7500, 2.93Ghz,

so the laptop i have my eye on comes with four Gb RAM and windows 7 32 bit, firewire etc, everything i need, but im unsure about the processor i was wondering if anyone could tell me how it might match up to my desktop Processor?

the laptop processor is AMD Turion II M620 Processor,

any thoughts,

Too long, didnt read; What is the AMD Turion II M620 Processor like compared to my Intel Core 2 Duo E7500, 2.93Ghz?

(from the site)

LOWER IS BETTER

Intel Core2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93GHz (RANKED)216

AMD Turion II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile M620 (RANKED)312

In addition, I would confirm that the laptop's firewire controller is compatible with your recording gear before you buy.

Cpu horsepower shouldn't be as much of a concern for recording. It comes into play when you use lots of plug-ins and can slow rendering a bit.

If you want to use it for location recording though, it should work fine.

That was a good suggestion from nialldoran about the firewire controller though. Some interfaces are picky about that.

thanks for the advice guys, ill be using a saffire pro 40 by the time i get a laptop so, ill do a bit of reading on firewire compatability,

i dont get at all how that site chart works,? or how worse the AMD is compared to the intel, if anyone could elaborate a bit more on that it would be a great help, thanks :D

CPU power affects latency.

CPU power affects latency.

Only if you are monitoring through your DAW during recording. Most interfaces have direct monitoring capabilities so latency is essentially zero.

They offer that as a solution to defeat latency. Most singers I know prefer some reverb through their cans and we especially like to play our amp sims in real time in stead of listening to the dry unprocessed signal.

On Presonus' user forum there was discussion about disabling speed-stepping on laptop processors and turbo on the new i5 i7 processors. I guess when the machine was throttling the CPU is was causing delays and pops/crackling. I don't think the AMD processors are using this technology but I know for sure that Intel is and has been using it for a while.

CPUz is a program that can tell you lots of stuff about your machine but it tells you in real time the core speed. If you have one of these throttling technologies running, the multiplier will change which intern causes the core speed to change.
