Hey guys, I'm a filmmaker. I'm going to be submitting a pilot to www.channel101.com and I just need to record a few theme songs and stuff. It doesn't have to be like super awesome quality, like I'm cutting a record or anything. Just decent quality. Can somebody rundown a quick list of things I'll need? I don't have any computer programs, but would like to record it on the computer. I have mics, a mixing board, and maybe some other stuff. If somebody would just post the bare minimums, I could go find it probably. Thanks in advance

PS- I already tried to post this topic, it froze up while I was doing it; so if there are two, don't be pissed just delete one. Thanks

Download a copy of Audacity. It is free. It is an audio utility that is open source, and steadily improving. No nonsense program.

Soundcards/Interfaces - There are dozens. You obviously need one able to take your mixer's output. Others more knowledgeable can chime in here.

Alright cool, downloaded and installed Audacity, looks pretty good. I'm serious about this too, and I genuinely appreciate any help. I'm trying to get this project underway. Thanks again man

EDIT: Okay, here is the mixer I have, you can pretty much see the main details from the picture.

Now, I have no idea how to use it. It was my dad's when his band used to gig, but I've never really touched it before. He passed away a while ago, so obviously can't help me with it. Anyways, so it looks like there's 8 channels for mics, and that's all I'm going to be using (I'm just mic'ing an accoustic, plus vocals). Where do I want to do the output from? Sorry if I'm not making much sense, I don't really know what I'm talking about.

But honestly reaper is better, and free (the link is below, in my signiture), and you can record more than on channel at a time ;)
Was you mixer built to be plugged directly into a computer? Im guessing no, so if you just need somthing simple w/ vocals try somthing like: fast track by: m-audio, its simple and cheep. If you just need a line in then you can try line 6 (if thats what those things are called?) and it would be cheeper.

Okay, figured it all out guys. Thanks
