can someone explain what the outputs on an interface are for. I know it sounds like a dumb question but i've always wondered whay there will be 2 inputs and 8 outputs
Seems strange that would be the case. Typical interfaces I've seen have more inputs than outputs. Basically outputs are for sending signals out of your computer or soundcard. Analog outputs can be routed to monitors, speakers, mixers, etc. Digital outputs (S/PDIF, ADAT, etc.) can send digital signals to external devices.
Usually interfaces have at least as many ins as outs, usually more ins. But having multiple outs is really useful for analog mixing "out of the box" on a mixer/console, using external effects processors, setting up headphone mixes, etc, etc.
