Need some good opinions / critiques! Thanks

This is the second time I've 'produced' anything, and the first time I've engineered from beginning through mixing at the end...

The tune is not mastered yet, and won't be 'complete' for a few days, but if anyone has anything they might be able to recommend to get it as professional sounding as possible, I'd appreciate it!!!!

The band is my band, Scene 24... (www.scene-24.com)...and we're trying to slap this EP together before our big opening show with King's X this week!

I assume we are to listen to "ac-time mp3"

sounded ok....pretty hissy recording, though..
sounds like acoustic, coffeehouse, kinda music. Not bad, not great,... good beer drinking, resturant background (applebee's) music.

"hip", "ego-ish" vocals are kinda lame though...
 
Bad song, bad recording...I want my 3 minutes and 26 seconds back!

oh well...such is life

King's X is one of my favorite bands. I don't want to sound like a wanker BUT, I can't believe you got that slot. You sound like your just playing around on this recording. How in the world could you be opening for King's X? I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot, but I don't understand this at all. Was that a type-o?

You are talking about Doug, Ty, and Jerry, yes?
 
I often come off like a wanker and I was thinking the same thing...wtf are these guys doing w/ King's X.
 
well....um...thanks for the vote of confidence, guys...

actually, that was a tune from our last CD and the version you heard was recorded live in a radio interview thing....it wasn't the true recorded version, just an acoustic live one take thingie....and we were kinda 'wanking', as we were having fun....

every member in my band have been fans of KX for years and years....we were very lucky to get the opening slot, and apparantly (thankfully), some people dug us, as we sold the heck out of our new CD's!!!!!


The new song that I was putting up, I'm talking with my web guy about getting up somewhere so it can be heard, so please bear with me for a bit....

If we still suck to you then, I can take it, although I'm looking more from the production and mix standpoint than anything!

i followed you link to mp3.com and the stuff from the cd "the trouble with me" sounds great. love to hear ya live or on tv sometime. Charva

I'm still waiting for a site for the new tune from my web guy, and listening back to the acoustic version of Time, I can see why people could think we're sucky...specially if it's supposed to be a 'real' recording!!!!!!!

As far as being deserving of opening for King's X...I thought about that...my conclusion is...
who is?!

Anyway, thanks to all who took the time (wasted or not) to listen, but hope you'll give another shot when I get the new ones up! lol

I didn't mean to sound like an a-hole. My expectations when you dropped the "King's X" name were very high. Your tune didn't suck, and I'll definitly check out your new tunes when you put them up. When you put it up here though, you have to expect people to be honest, otherwise what's the point? It's a "clinic" where "sick"songs can get better. :)

I do appreciate feedback....evil or happy....as Randy of the Redwoods says, "either way it's fine with me"...but my main concern is finding what I could do better on...

as stated above, it's my first time of engineering everything, so I'm still green...I've heard some of the stuff around here and think I can benefit from opinions here....so yeah.....I'm wide open!!!!! lol

"Yeah, yeah, yeah" , Good Song! Now this is what I wish I heard first. Sounds like it could be on a newer King's X album. You should start a new thread about this tune. I like this tune. People like mixmkr and VoxVendor, could probably offer better suggestions than I, but good tune bro. One comment the "I just close my eyes" might be a 'hair' flat, maybe not though, but I love the chorus. I like the guitar, I really love the chorus harmony. I immediately felt it. Now I see why your opening for KX. Dude, check out my tune here in the clinic and tell me what you think. This song is on its 4th play. Start a new thread.

I'll check yours out....think I started to on break the other day, but ran out of time....if I remember right, an acoustic thing with some interesting background guitars?
