Hey guys. I was just looking for some extra ears on this tune.

As of now I've got a stock drum loop going. It will eventually be replaced by a real drummer. I've also got some things to clean up here and there during the breaks/pauses. I recorded the main vocals a little further back than usual, so I'm getting a little more room sound in them...not sure if I like that or not. Please pay particular attention to the very end. That's that part that I'm a little worried about as far as getting it to sound like marching. Any EQ suggestions? There is very little EQ being done on this save low cuts on just about everything to get rid of any unwanted low frequencies.

Any suggestions?

If anyone cares this was the way it was recorded...
All mic'ed instruments (Big Baby Taylor & Larriviee LV-03E) path: Studio Projects B1 > Presonus Firebox > iMac > Cubase
Voice (and a couple clapping): Shure KSM32 > Presonus Firebox > iMac > Cubase
Bass (Squire P Bass): > SansAmp Bass Driver DI > Presonus Firebox...
Drum Machine (Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-770)

Yup!

The rimshot sounds great, but I think it's out in front radically...to the point of distraction.

Then the bass drum pumps during the breakdown...equal in impact to the rim, but then disappears during the band-in sections. My HF hearing is not great, but I think the HH could be a bit more up...especially cuz the mix is sparse.

I think the vox could be leveled up slightly...put out in front where the rim thing is.

My mix would be: vox up, rim down, bass drum consistent w/ the breakdown throughout. and a wee bit more hat....maybe.

I think the rest is fine.

The song sounds good. I agree with Jeff about the bass drum. When the second guitar comes in the stereo mix is balanced, but it takes a while to come in and until that point the mix is noticeably unbalanced. As far as the marching at the end I think maybe a little more bass on the marching sounds might make it sound more real. Overall I like it.

JEFFMAHER: I'll be replacing the drums at some point. That's a stock drum loop from Garageband that I didn't really know how to tweak. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything else that worked better for the song, so I just left it. I'll boost the vox a bit until I get the drums replaced with the real ones. Thanks for checking it out!

PATLANG12: Thanks Pat. I was kind of wondering about the balance thing myself, but I was kind of hoping the drum hi-hat on the other side of the single guitar would balance it...no? I do feel like the guitar is panned far harder than the hi-hat though... I'll have to remix once the new drums are in. I was having issues with the marching at the end and wasn't really sure how to eq it. It's mostly stomps on a wood floor and some claps....I'll mess with that a bit too. thanks!

You might want to check out the song Camilo by State Radio. It has a similar march thing going on. You might be able to use it as a reference to get the march sounding more how you want it.
