I play in a hardcore/metal band, and I'm looking for a small unit that I can use to create and edit samples to play in between songs during our set. I really don't know what features I need to look for here. I would like something where I can push a button, and it would play up to about a minutes worth of a pre-arranged ambient/voice samples, while the rest of the band tunes, etc...Then as soon as the sample is over, start thrasing....
Where do I start looking? I've looked at the Korg es-1, yamaha su200, su700, and boss 505, but I'm not sure of any of these can actually do what I need them to do, since the internet reviews are usually discussing making beats and the such....
My budget is around $200-$400 used.

Unless you need to trigger samples by MIDI from a keyboard, why not just get a Walkman-style CD player? You can burn up to 99 audio tracks ahead of time, and select from them on the spot at the gig.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing....

1 Minute?... Thats a long sample time....

As for reccomending samplers... EMU is in my opinion, the best.

A CD player wouldn't work at all, because someone would have to hit play, then search for the track, then stop the track. I need something that will stop automatically.
It wouldn't be one sample, it would be a sequence of samples that were pre-assembled. Is that even possible with these things?

If you've got a bit of cash, the Boss SP 303 (Dr Sample) is good. It has 8 buttons which trigger samples. I think you can loop them so noises won't have to be as long.

Second the vote for the SP-303, if you're on a budget.
Nice module, better then the SU200 (I've used both).

Yes, the SP-303 will let you arrange samples (pads) into a song. A sequence of samples, really.
